Hate when this happens

So you declare winter rules, then deny someone a first tee mulligan?

Interesting.

Wait. What??

Since when are declaring winter rules connected in any way, shape or form to taking an extra ball off the first tee?

Also, there was a winter rules sign posted by the club which is pretty common for a lot of clubs in my area this time of year. I would fall out of my golf cart if I ever saw a sign that read “All Golfers must take a mulligan on first tee” sign:)

He def should have gotten clarification before hitting the breakfast ball. My group allows it but its well known and stated beforehand. Does your group hole all putts including the 2-3 inch tap ins that just burned the edge?

That’s a biggie. I never tap one back to someone until I know how they deal with gimmes.

Let's be clear, it's only a biggie if you're in a large group and need to protect the field. Other than that it's not a biggie at all:

1) it's a putt they'd make unless they had a medical stroke in the middle of their golf stroke, the handicap gods won't strike you dead for not holing out.

2) if the putt is even close to the 'drama' zone I ask the player if they want to putt it out. However if their 'putting out every one' leads to a full, mark, plumbbob, align the ball, walk to the other side - rinse, lather, repeat, for a putt they should make 95% of the time with their eyes closed, more than once..... I'm gonna stop asking and knock it back....I don't have time for them to live out their PGA tour dreams on my weekend, just so they can be morally superior about their score. Walk up and hit it in the hole it's a gimme.....

3) if the game is match play, it's perfectly fine for me to give anything- no need to cop an attitude with me about it, which leads to.....

4) If the game is match play, and it pi$$es them off that much- I'm probably gonna keep giving putts until it needs to count.

I’ll be clear to me. I don’t impose how we play in our group onto another group. It’s pretty presumptuous to just assume someone else wants the putt given. You’ll find plenty of people on this board who want to putt them out.

You said you’d ask if the player wants to putt out, so it must be at least somewhat important to you also.

It’s a biggie to me because I’m a guest in their game, and I want to follow their guidelines.

I think I was clear on when it's important. I also don't think it's all that egregiously presumptuous to assume a flat 8" putt is good for the sake of moving along..... regardless, not one person I'd play with a second time has ever had their day/round ruined cuz they didn't get to hole it out from 8"

That being said I don't care how long your (or my) putt is- if it's for ESC Max or more.... pick it up. We've seen/played enough of golf on this hole already.

ESC is for posting for handicap purposes. After the round. When you’re playing a money game where total strokes matter....finish the hole.

Play match play - it's much better and doesn't take as long. Some of the best games we have in fourballs is fourball match play. Quick and decisive.

I’m sure we’d adapt, and maybe even come to like it better, but I really just don’t ever see it happening at our place
