Ping Sigma2 Putters

Recommended Posts

Why does everyone want a softer feel to their putter?

The Cleveland pitters have milled steel faces. The SOFT is an acronym for the face milling which is similar to Pings or Evnroll or what not. Intended to help off center strikes roll more like center strikes. It’s SOFT not soft feeling.

I would rather have a feel that tells me I hit the putt.

I want an audible sound not a marshmallow feel along with a soft feeling ball that gives you no feedback so you do not even know that you hit the ball.

I agree. Cleveland HB Soft, Sigma 2, why is everyone going softer? I am digging the new adjustable length tech, but I much prefer the feel of the older Redwood and Anser Milled pre TR grooves.

Purchased the ZB and will try it out on Monday. Went with the Custom order, tour issue, limited quantity X-Flex shaft option :)

Was really in a bind between ZB Sigma 2 and ZB Vault 2.0.

2.0’s milled face of course felt great BUT I liked Sigma 2’s:

- Price ($100 less + got $100 trade in for my Sigma G)

- Adjustability (I’m 6’4” and have no ability to decide on a length)

- Sight line (2.0 had a dot)

- Width (wider than 2.0)

Sigma 2 inset still seems so soft, but feels nice, but...we shall see how it performs in the wild.

Tried the Anser. Felt nice & liked the look down at the ball. Nice weight at the 350g spec. Would have went with that but ZB was a better stroke match.

Thanks for that, definitely going to try both as the look of the ZB is stunning and probably my preferred option. Being for a strong arc put me off a bit as there isn't much movement in my putting stroke. One club I've never been fitted for is the putter so now might be just the time.

In terms of grip is the 661 the closest to the Superstroke 2.0 mid?

Played around with most of the line and the head that surprised me most was the Valor (slight arc). Doesn't look great in pictures but it's really easy to use in person. However, the feel on all of them is just too soft. I know some people like it, but I think the feel of the Vault series is much better. I prefer some sound feedback to dial in distance control.

Anyone tried the Answer 2 yet?? Thinking of upgrading from my O Works 2W which I love the softness of but if these are softer I'm in. No stores nearby has them yet sadly.

Tried it in store yesterday and it was really nice. It’s definitely soft but a strangely nice kind of soft with some nice feedback. I actually liked the Tyne a lot and if they had a slight arc I would have trunked it.

That's good to know, thanks for the feedback. Soft/lightness is what makes or breaks a putter for me. Love feeling it into the hole.

I was playing a 352cpm shaft in my putter in 2017. In 2018 got fitted and the fitter said with my quick transition coupled with a strong forward press this was too weak. We went with a 402cpm shaft and been lights out. Avg putts per round went from 33 to 27.

Could someone please answer a question for me relating to the Tyne 4? I see that it is a strong arc putter.

Does it hang as much as an Odyssey 9 or is it closer to the standard toe hang of an Anser? I am following the logic as in general, the toe hang mallets designed for a slight arc hang less than Anser style putters.

Thanks,

Harry

Rolled the Arna and Tyne today. Puts a nice roll on the ball but that insert behind the face made it feel numb and too soft for me...no feedback at all. Distance control was an issue which is too bad because I really liked how accurate it seemed.

Arna was in the black finish which is a nice matte to reduce glare. The silver on the Tyne looked like the same finish as the first gen Sigmas.

So, not sure if anyone has mentioned this yet or not, but I just received by stealth Tyne 4. My immediate reaction what that it felt like I was wiggling a senior flex driver shaft. I had all the guys in the shop come over and they all were amazed at how it felt. As I reduced the length the "soft" or "loose" shaft feeling was less noticeable but I am still shocked that I heard nothing about this in the pre-release reviews.

It feels like a orange whip putting trainer. Anyone else run into this?

Anyone know if this new line would lead to a price drop in the Vault 2.0 line sometime soon? Need to pickup a new zb bronze

I doubt they will. The original Vault line are still listed at $299.99 at most places....could be a while

I was getting bored with 'forged vs. cast', 'blade vs. cb', and 'Cameron vs. whoever'.

Thankfully, now, we have putter shaft flex.

The funny thing is it’s true. No BS! try one. Take one out onto the putting green and hit some long putts and then report back with your thoughts

Technically a softer shaft should put more oomph on the ball. Great for lags

These shafts feel terrible. If you know your length just order with a normal shaft form Ping.
