I don't think Penn is coed.  Pretty sure NH is.

Yes, NH is coed as the amount of girls playing is very small (for the State Individual girls - our division, the second largest, only had 23).  We take top 5 scores from 8 players.

This is interesting.

I have often discussed with others a better way to move schools through the playoffs and onto states.  Maybe a number cutoff.  As an example, there are 16 teams going to the state tournament here.  In girl's there is always a poor region where a team that can't shoot under 400 will get into the state tournament.  Meanwhile a better region has a team sitting at home that can compete.  The boy's side is never really a problem.

State finals is only 4 teams in each classification but there are others who play in as individuals so they can compete for a state title.  A team title is awarded as well as individual titles for each class.

Our state team championship is on Monday.  29 groups for a 9:00 shotgun.  Probably get done at 3:00 or even later.  So stupid.  Year after year people complain about this and nothing is done.

Doing a shotgun for the State Championship is bush league.

29 groups, I am guessing at 3 kids per group?

Nothing feels like a state championship quite like starting in the same fashion as a Thursday night beer league scramble.

Best way I have seen is to send them out based on their scores in the district/regional level, in order with the best players going out first. Have a healthy cut and then reverse it after the cut to the best players going out last. This creates the most excitement as the better teams and players are coming in at the end of the tournament.

Ending a scramble and having everyone walking back to turn in scores at the same time is silly as everyone will have to wait around for the results.

That is pretty disgraceful. I wonder how they plan on getting all of those kids back to the clubhouse once they finish up?

Back in my day (old man voice) our state championship was a 2 day event and everyone had designated tee times going off of #1. If I remember correctly there were 10-12 teams competing all with 5 players each. Day 1 pairings were random, but day two was based on the round 1 scores. Always made for an exciting finish. At least it did for me and my team since we won 4 out of the 5 years I played.

Teams starting on a Par 3 are at a huge disadvantage, in my opinion.  Courses are designed to play 1-9 and 10-18.  Nothing like your first tee shot of the day being a 218 yd par 3 over water.

23 foursomes and 6 threesomes.  Also this is the team championship, not individuals.  Individuals were done this week with tee times.

Good question.  Thankfully my son is in group 1B.

We got done at 2:45, so 15 minutes faster than I thought.  We came in 3rd.  They shortened the course to 6150 yards and that really played to the strengths of some of the other teams.  The longer and tougher, the better for us.  Sucks for it to end that way.  Was hoping for my son to go out as part of a perfect season.

6150 is crazy short.  Looks like at Heritage 4,6,10, and 15 are all close to driveable.  All Par 5's reachable with driver/iron.

What is even crazier is it is only a 1 day competition.

The whole thing is just a s*** show.  The condition of the course was awful.  Those holes are driveable (15 is a par 3, I think you meant 16) but they all have hazards and high grass surrounding them so 16 is the only one that it really makes sense to go after, and that is a completely blind shot.  It's just a frustrating situation.  No one, and I mean no one, likes having the championships at that course.  So many other great options to choose from.

It is a shame they don't take more pride in putting together a good championship.

The course Florida plays on is a really good course.  The problem is all the kids play there within the tours going through the state.  Those kids teams are also the ones playing in the state Championship on almost a yearly basis.  It has grown stale.  The excitement just isn't there.  If we end up going this year, it will be 7 years in a row going with my daughter and now my son's team.

Our HS team just made states again.  296 at regions 71-72-73-80.  Every one is playing for second in my opinion.  Team up north shot -14 at districts and -8 at districts.  Loaded with D1 talent.
