Who Teaches Tour Pro Swing Fundamentals?

Visually they all seem to me to stick the clubhead way in the ground by about half way down and then all pull it nearly all the way back out by impact; they all seem to move their head lower and forward in the early downswing and then back and up and away; they all rotate the golf club; they all seem to extend in the downswing about 1-2" towards the ball from the deepest point their tush ever gets.

Awesome! Just what I was looking for. I'll work on that. Thanks!

Wow.

OP, in your putting thread you said you are late 30s? How old exactly? It looks like you've been playing not all that long and playing well to be worrying about your swing so much if you are a 3. How long did it take to get there?

I am 39. I have been playing since a kid. I was much better than I am now but I kept it much more simple. Now I know too much and have become overly technical. Then when I go more "natural" I just get loose and sloppy. I'm looking for the middle ground with some good swing fundamentals that I don't deviate from. Not setup related. My setup is good as has been verified by numerous pro's.

What all pro (good) golf swings have in common is the angle of approach when their turn over to square contact begins. If you look at the square line at contact as a plane other than a line you can see and measure the angle of your plane line ( plane to plane), no matter what height angle you are at. In doing this you will see that all pro golfers are swinging to the ball at a right angle for a straight ball flight, slightly less than a right angle (acute) for a fade or slightly over (a obtuse angle) for a draw.

Sounds like you are looking for something like the 5 Simple Keys which have been debated some on this site (and are promoted by another golf forum).

Key #1 - Steady Head

Key #2 - Weight Forward

Key #3 - Inline Impact

Key #4 - Diagonal Sweetspot Path

Key #5 - Clubface Control

The theory is to identify which key you are weakest at and work on that first. I took a few online lessons about 5 years ago and found much of what they said to be consistent with a good instructor I had seen in the past. I think it was helpful for me and I still refer back to it, BUT it is still possible for different instructors to think you should work on a different key first AND DIFFERENT INSTRUCTORS CAN GO ABOUT IMPROVING THAT KEY DIFFERENTLY.

As others have said, you want a good instructor who has a great understanding of golf swing mechanics, not someone who is half smart teaching the flavor of the month.

Tour Tempo also claims to be a common element of all pros was reviewed favorably here, but I have not tried it yet.

Yes, certainly lots of overlap and many of the same followers. Some differences I think, but I never got that deep into S & T

Great, thanks for that suggestion. I remember looking at that some time ago but didn't like the stack and tilt aspect of it. I guess, apart from that there is some solid stuff there. Thanks again.
