I've played with people (mostly older gentlemen) that use their Anser style putter to pop their ball up out of the cup to keep from bending over. This has to be better than that.

Damn it I hate that!! I actually told a single I got paired with to stop doing it a few weeks ago after he damaged the cup at about hole number 5.

He mumbled something foul and looked at me like he wanted to fight. I’m a mean f#cker on the course when it comes to etiquette and not damaging things and I looked at him like I would rip his head off. He cooled down.

Fortunately we were buddies the rest of the round.

Jag you must have ran him down here then. Our course was filled with drunk stupid Tourons yesterday (yep getting to be that time of the year for us sigh). Every hole on the course was torn up from this crap. We fixed several holes. One of the rangers on duty yesterday is a bud of mine and I told him. He said yeah he knew and had gotten on several people in different groups about that. he shrugged and said "You know what can you do? it is after all that time of the year for us". Yep like you I am real anal about my home course getting damaged by these out of town morons especially stupid lazy crap like that. Some of our older members have back issues and have trouble bending over to pick up a ball but they at least have those suction cup things on the end of their putters.

I love what they've done with this putter. Just saw leaked pics of the "multi-tool" attachment grip for this putter. Bottle opener and divot repair tool attachments released so far. Still awaiting pics for the ball retriever attachment and the Metamucil scoop attachment.

Is all that real? Seriously? I can see the next thread coming on WRX------ Has anyone else poked a hole in the bottom of their bag with the new Ping Putter?" I can see the aftermarket now. I damage the cup all the time with my 8 iron through lob wedge. Basically all of my fairway shots from 160 yards and closer. It’s like throwing darts at it!

Humble brag. More accurately, humble lie... But when I do finally make a putt, I pick it up the traditional way.

How do these old and feeble mark their balls, fix ball marks and push their tees into the ground if their ailing backs won't allow them to? Anybody fishing their ball out of the cup ON THE COURSE with their putter head is just plain lazy and careless. The BST should have a marker for all members who are guilty of this infraction, so as to warn potential buyers of these particular seller's indifference towards their equipment. I, for one, will steer completely clear of any such sellers because it's a waste of my time to look at their garbage "goods".

Maybe another alternative exists, just like the little old lady at the supermarket straining to reach the top shelf. Politely ask a more able-bodied member of the group to retrieve your ball for you. But in all reality, the suction cup thing is at least viable and shows you're not a completely careless tool.

Goodness there’s an awful lot of vitriol in this thread over a putter that I’m guessing most people will never actually lays eyes on on an actual golf course.

Glove: ML
Tees: 2 3/4
Towel: white
Repair tool: metal
Ball Marker: largest poker chip in the world

The problem lies in that some people immediately assume the putter will be used for this purpose, which is not at all correct. Digging the ball out of the cup is not acceptable on the course, end of story. Ask any superintendent the same, and I doubt they'll disagree.

As for the older generation, I thought they were supposed to be purists, in love with traditional value and respect for the game, but in recent times it would seem they've gone the way of sloppy etiquette and the 4-foot gimme putt...

And this affects you personally how? It seems you need to worry and enjoy yours. I’m a 52 year old man who doesn’t need to be told how to behave. I earned mine with hard work, so your opinion about the older generation, who you obviously don’t know or can’t relate, is pretty insignificant. Your view of the older generation is wrong and obtuse.

I don’t fish balls out of a cup with my expensive putter and I putt out every putt. I personally don’t know anybody who does what you claim, but even if I did, I wouldn’t care about it.

With that I let you go one with your hate towards older people. Just remember, one day, hopefully you will also be old. Enjoy!

The same can be said for the condescension and disdain for the younger generations on here. I just can't stand people justifying their ignorant behavior, as if they've somehow earned that right for one reason or another. If you come into this forum and make excuses to support that, touting age as your argument, expect to be called out on it. I'm not grouping everyone under the same umbrella, but the argument for fishing the ball out with your putter head only has one toothpick of support to stand on, I'm sorry. I'm sick and tired of the "I'm old, I can do what I want" point of view, that's all. I respect age and the elderly as much as the next person, but no "free pass" is to be given in regard to acts of carelessness, at any age.

May just be me but if you can't bend over to pick up your ball you probably shouldn't be playing golf..

That's the common wisdom, but I disagree with it.

Golf allows individuals of all ages, physical conditioning, and ability to compete. My grandfather played into his late 70's before he hung up his bag. If using a little rubber cup on the end of a putter allows someone to enjoy golf more, so be it.

I do agree, however, in avoiding damage to the hole or cup.

I'm one of the older golfers...tho not guilty of the comments you make....but ,the older folks cant ask one of the younger folks to

get the ball out of the cup because the younger ones cant put down their phones and are busy texting.

See how generalities work? They rarely add anything useful to a conversation, and they are normally wrong.

So back to saner thoughts....

Putted with the Sigma2 (Fetch and Anser) and the biggest thing I can take from using them at different lengths is that the shaft is flimsy. If you sole the putter on the grass and take it away, you can feel and see the shaft flex below the grip (even more than old TP Mills putters). This might be a make or break item for most players. Putt really well from a feel point of view, but I might be inclined to change the shaft to something stiffer.

Down here I have seen it both ways. Both young and old. But most of the local retiree members if they are not able to bend over use a suction cup thing on the butt end of their putter. Most of the damage I described in a previous post was caused by the Touron golfers according to my ranger buddy. 99% of them are a**hats and do not repair ball marks, replace divots or sand divots. They do not care because they are only here a week or so.
