Renting a Trackman?

GMR

Recommended Posts

So I find that my range practice sessions are most efficient when I have access to the data that Trackman provides, and I was thinking it would be great to have access to a unit when working to prepare for a big event. While I realise that I could take lessons from an instructor to get access to a unit (obviously), I'm more interested in simply having it as a tool for feedback during some multi-hour range sessions to really hone in my game.

Does anyone know if there is a way to rent a trackman (without the instructor) for anywhere from a couple days to a week?

Thanks!

You're not the only one that wants this but I don't know of anyone who offers it.

Sending out a $15-20k unit to an individual is a lot of liability for a company.

I'm sure they could insure it but have no clue what that would cost.

The driving range in Del Mar, San Diego has a few booths with Top Tracer. Costs $25 for an hour and includes a jumbo bucket. I've not used it yet but you get carry, ball speed, trajectory. I think it's the same tech as Top Golf facilities. Not as detailed as Trackman but not bad for 25 bucks. The only thing is you are using range balls so your carry numbers won't be that precise.

Thanks for the responses. Going to hit in bays doesn't really interest me much. I have access to both a grass range with premium balls and also live on a course where I can go out in the evening, and would really like to take a TM with me for a few days. In the past when I've had the opportunity to really spend some quality time looking at hard data I've found I've made some decent strides in my game.

Obviously won't apply to me but curious if any of you who work with an instructor regularly have a relationship where you can use the TM in an unsupervised fashion from time to time?

There are a few places that you can rent, don't think it gets much cheaper than $50 an hour

Lot of people do insure their TM, but pretty dang expensive

Really just going to depend on where you are, but as others have said, befriending a instructor or fitter that will let you use could be the ticket

Pickup a lightly used flightscope Xi+ or tour and it will largely pay for itself if you really plan to use them for multiple hours/days at a time. Just as accurate but much cheaper up front cost.

I don't think you will see too many instructors just letting you use them, as they themselves are going to be using them if they are on the lesson tee and likely cant afford to have a 3rd party potentially break it, return it late, etc. It's an expensive asset and tied directly to their main source of income so I can understand why many wouldnt risk it. Your club sounds pretty nice so perhaps its something you can ask the head pro about having one for members to use for a fee.

Where do you live? If you are in the bay area Mariners Point offers this service: https://www.trackmanrentals.com/

Funny I was just looking at this before I read the post

I’d advise against it unless your only goals are to figure out true carry numbers or work wedge distance control. Most will go chasing numbers and not understand why they’re happening or how to fix the root cause. I have a GC Quad and rarely let anyone see “all the numbers”

  • 1 month later...

My local range has a Trackman 4 unit that they rent out in an indoor bay for 25 to 50 an hour. The intro rate is 25 but my sense over the par year is that 25 to 30 is going to be the sweet spot. They are trying to push the indoor heated bay for the same rate this winter, which is actually situated in a very nice high ceiling facility with a robust heat system. For the things I’m looking at, I trust the numbers either way with a bit of understanding about the mat vs grass spin delta. Plus, indoors you can switch to a premium ball and get solid data for teed balls. I may use the unit to just work on one or two things. Aoa with the stick or maybe dynamic loft with a mid iron. Or path related to stance.
