Greatest Fairway Finding Driver?

Recommended Posts

I know this is a debatable topic but what driver have you hit that seemed like it was just fire and forget knowing it was going to be in the FW?

Recently I have been finding the long grass more then I would like and think I can give up distance in terms of accuracy. What drivers should I look into? Doesn’t have to be a new model.

I play a Titleist 910 D2, it works well for me. But really, if you can't hit the ball straight, shouldn't you think about spending your money on a lesson or two first? Especially if the problem is recent, its much more likely to be caused by a swing change than by your equipment.

The Ping G Max is a fairway finder, but as far as accuracy goes, there is nothing that beats the Ping K15. I've sold 3 of them to playing buddies after they hit it just one time. Even the Ping G SFTec was beat out by the K15. I sold my G SFTec driver and 3 wood to a playing buddy and went to the G Max. I gained a bit of distance with the G Max but lost some accuracy from the K15. I still play the K15 in my walking bag. The G Max is in the cart bag.

Probably not relevant to todays drivers, but back in the day, a Taylormade 200 Steel w/Rifle steel shaft was the most accurate driver I ever played. I realize it was some time ago, and a steel shafted club, bit it was as automatic a driver as there was. I still have my original, and although it's obviously much shorter than modern drivers, I still find the fairway automatically.

A little more loft might help as well. If you usually play at 9° try 10.5°

This summer I decided to try a 13.5 degree head with the ball teed up a bit lower (a little past the yellow part of the those tees with the height markings). The results have amazed me. It's as close to "point and shoot" as I imagine I'll ever get. What a confidence boost, and I definitely have not lost distance.

I should mention that I have AoA problems as it is.
