Ping Guys....I need a small headed 3 wood. Can you help?

Some background. My G400 irons are so strong that I've had to redo the top of my bag. I picked up a 17 degree hybrid but now need a strong 3 wood (14*) to fill the gap between the hybrid and driver. I called Ping and they recommended an i20 or i25. Which, if either, is a smaller head? Do you have any other recommendations?

i15 would be a good option as well, sizing should be very similar between those 3 Ping options.

If you need it stronger, go with the i25, or anser. They are both adjustable. i20 is not. I miss my anser fairway. hell of a club.

Why not a G400? The standard model is 14.5* and is adjustable. The Stretch is 13* but I'd think it'd be more of a driver replacement more than something off the deck.

i25 was an awesome, smaller headed model. Is the G400 standard FW, turned down half degree too big for what you want?

I25 was in my bag for years. Great three wood. It might not compete on yardage but consistancy and ease of use off the deck it is the best three wood I've ever played.

 

I actually don't think the stretch looks much bigger than standard G400 with its deeper face.

Anser is the best damn fairway that PING has ever made.

Anser is by far the best fairway wood EVER! If you cant find that, maybe try an original Ping Rapture 3 wood, not the newer 13 degree model as it has a bigger head.

Another vote for the Anser. It is almost criminal how good the Anser hybrids and fairways were.

I too enjoy a smaller headed FW. Agree Ping Anser. Currently gaming a Callaway 816alpha! Consider Tour edge CB series.

Like all have said Anser is an amazing fairway but it isn’t as compact as the i20. I think the anset is a better performer but i20 was solid

Has to be a Ping? The TaylorMade M3 High Launch is a nice compact 3 wood with lots of versatility. Far easier to hit than the M1 fairways. The X2 Hot Pro is another solid suggestion.

Unless you’re stuck on Ping, the Cally 815 alpha is quite good and quite small headed. Much smaller than the 816 someone mentioned.

If you were on the phone with PING, why didn't you just ask them which head is smallest? Call them back and I bet they'll be able to give you the exact CC's of any model you want and then you'll know precisely which is the smallest head from them you can get.

 

If you're willing to go non-PING, then I think the smallest fairway woods out there right now are Taylormade M3 and Cobra KING F8+. Those are both very, very compact.

Cally 816 Alpha 3 wood is at 165cc. Depends what you feel is smallish. Also depending if use 4 wood loft then some 5 woods can loft to that and have smallish cc size.

Smallest footprint Ive played is the tour issued rbz double stamp or rbz proto. The sole was flatter than the original rbz and more compact. Not the easiest to laumch off the deck it has almost driver like spin rates.

 

T3 or 3hl 2016 m2 deep face also has a small profile and nasty long.

If you can hold off, the G410 line will offer a small headed 3 wood option.

I brought the Ping G400 3 wood to go with my G400 driver. Hated it, not like the driver at all. Picked up a Cobra F6 3 wood , best 3 wood I've owned.

Anser fairways are brilliant. I15 is possibly their smallest modern tech fairway wood. I25 also very compact and low spinning.

Anser fairway woods are very good. Smaller and compact but still very forgiving and easy to hit off the deck. I still have the 5 wood in my bag and used the 3 wood until the G came out. I like the G400 best but it is larger than the Anser.
