Anybody have Rain or Shine Skytrak Platinum Golf Simulator Studio??

I’m not at all handy and like the idea of simple, complete setup. I’m not necessarily looking for the absolute cheapest DIY. I’m willing to pay a little premium for ease of use. However I was curious if anybody has this and would recommend the build quality and quality of design. Looks somewhat interesting to me. Thx.

Here are a couple other vendors that I have heard good things from a turnkey approach ;

Edit- To your question I think the mat is not amazing but that net return and the skytrak are pretty good units.

my guy, the skytrak is $2000. . . .$3500 for a terrible mat that the skytrak will have trouble finding the ball on, and for a ball return that takes up the living room and has massive unnecessary side nets. and forget taking down and setting up if your inclined.

Not worth it IMO. If u want some quick tips on setting up a station for about $1000 ($3000 including skytrak) lmk! It wont include 2x4s or epoxy i swear lol.

ive seen the adds but never clicked. What a crazy high price

You can hook a white quilt up to two of these century stands.

thats what i do. Very easy to break down if need be. i have the blanket bottom corners tucked under the c-stands so the ball rolls back towards me after hitting the quilt

That plus a fiberbilt of CCE mat an your good to go bud

If your budget is 5-6k, I would go with a used gc2 for around 4k then get a Rukket net, and fiberbuilt Mat. Skytrak is a great value but the gc2 will be better. Should you decide you want a more premium space you would likely want to go to an impact screen with frame. I started with a used gc2 and Rukket net.

I had been planning for skytrak for 2K, but am intrigued by used gc2. I’d like club path angle etc data if I can get it for a decent price. Any idea where a good place to get used. eBay???

GC2 only does ball data. If you want club data (club head speed, path, face orientation, etc..), you need HMT to go along with GC2 which will put you up around $9-10k. Least expensive option for club data would be a used Flightscope X2 or Xi Tour ~$5-6k - but then you need more room, at least 16 feet from the radar unit to the screen/net.

Biggest problem is that there are so many options and directions to go. Paralyzed with choice!

I didn't feel like bidding war on ebay for GC2, so I got skytrak. I was happy with my final cost of 3000 including hitting station. I thought I would want all the extra info, but I get club path and spin, and can buy impact tape or powder spray if need impact tracking. but I don't lol. After extensive skytrak use, I try to limit indoor play, as it messes with outdoor swing.

Can you explain more? I hadn’t heard about indoor simulation affecting real golf swing

Sorry. . it messes with my golf swing at least. I like getting a feel for turf interaction, and I feel mats offer more forgiveness and I start to get lazy with my swing.

not a huge deal, I like using it once or twice a week to stay loose in the winter when the range is using mats only as well.

I have wondered about a CPO GC2. It lures me in with the $5,400 base price, but then it appears to be a whopping $3K extra for FSX 2018. So then you’re at $9,400 for an older model LM.

While needing more space, XI+ with E6 seems like a comparative bargain for a brand new unit with some courses and skills assessment at about $6,800.

Either way, SkyTrak is a comparative bargain for indoor-only fun.

Does Flightscope offer CPO or any deals? An XI Tour for around the same price as a new XI+ would be really tempting.

Despite it's age, the gc2 is still very accurate (and popular) for indoor sim and the main benefit (other than space) is that it can be used with a lot more different sim software than Flightscope (like TGC or JNPG) or even the newer GCQuad. I think e6 is fine but TGC seems to be more popular.

Yes, skytrack is more cost effective up-front - but I (personally) hate the fact that they suck you into a yearly subscription just to be able to integrate with other sim software (above and beyond the cost of that software). That doesn't bother some, but it does bother me.

Can't say for sure but I've never seen Flightscope have any CPO offers. Just occasional ebay listings for used units. They do run a special on the Xi Tour from time to time to get it for $7500 instead of the normal $9k.

Thanks much - $7500 is getting close to my acceptable range. I'll have to look out for those offers. I also need to stop buying cars...

I like GC2 for the simplicity and the reliability outdoors... but that price...

Yep, I'm in that boat where the subscription doesn't bother me. I'd need to pay that integration subscription for 70 years to get to the cost of GC2 with FSX, and I think (hope) we'll have no more than 3 years before we see more viable alternatives in the gap between the $2K for Skytrak and the $7K for the more commercial offerings. I also have to weigh that Skytrak subscription principle against the ability for some of the others to charges outrageous fees for license transfers, etc.

  • 7 months later...

FYI, last winter I managed to get my setup going. I haven’t yet decided if I will go with impact screen and projector. As of now, I went with Net return (which is high quality), fiber built mat, GC2, Jack Nicklaus simulator, and a generic green synthetic golf carpet to cover floor. I have ceiling a shade under 10 feet. It has worked out grandly. I have big 65 or 70 inch TV and a nice gaming computer set up for the simulator experience. Very happy thus far. I may add the hmt to get club data, but I have to decide whether hmt or projector is higher priority.
