Ping Blueprint forged irons- New photos added page 27

Recommended Posts

After reading through the comments, I seem to be the only one disappointed that they aren't hollow blade-esk looking forged offering with great forgiveness. Cool that they have a blade offering, I'm sure their tour pros love it, but where is my smallish players hollow great feeling forgiving golf club? Maybe I'm asking for too much.

My thoughts exactly. See my comment above about the s55. It's unclear to me what these offer that blades from other companies don't.

A small headed hollow iron though? While the feel would certainly be different and possibly really weird, the combo of a blade head shape with significant forgiveness sounds very intriguing.

how much of a market for that is there tho? especially if they have an iblade 2.0 as well. the iblade would serve anyone that was a small but forgiving club such as the s55. the main thing the hollow club would add is ball speed, but how many people are looking for that want a distance iron too, especially in the short irons. most people wanting an s-series/iblade profile arent looking for thin-faced hot 8irons. plus hollow clubs partly because of the thin face tend to feel worse. there will be some that want of course, but that seems like a small market. i do get some people want sthg like p760 where short irons are solid and long irons are hollow. but you can always get that by going long irons in i500, short irons iblade.

I see Ping will finally make a real forged bladed iron, happy for us that play blades. Question is, will more players decide to give them a try? Its interesting that

so many companies have brought to market a forged blade

design in the past couple of years.

it will be interesting to see what ping says about its reasons for making this club. they've avoided sthg like this for a longtime because it didnt really fit into what ping was about with regards to tech. is it just marketing and they see a target market. or has something changed. if there sthg they can do now they couldnt before, etc. have say manufacturing processes w forging, cnc machining, or perhaps just the cost changed enough that they feel like they can make a club like this that still brings enough tech/forgiveness to the table for it to feel like ping. i think they scooped up some of the nike patents so maybe that plays into it too. i'm just wondering if we hear sthg along the lines of we didnt do this before because we couldnt get this sort of club to do X, but now we can sthg like this and have it as forgiving as the s-series/iblade or sthg like that. or if its just a pure hey we want part of that market sort of thing (which is fine, more options isnt a bad thing).

I don't know if I can wait 6 months...might have to go with the 919 tour if the wait is that long....then try these in a year or so. Hope ping surprises us and drops them sooner rather than later.

If you want to wait for the Pings, DON'T HIT THE 919 TOURS. The moment you hit them you'll forget all about the Pings and start looking for Mizuno gear...I did this two weeks ago...lol

I'm sure I'll still swing these once they come out, but it'll be extremely hard to kick the 919T out. They're probably the best feeling iron I've ever hit.

I've already used the 919 and was planning on getting them, but I like ping irons....and i have to give these a fair try. If these were non existent then the 919 would be it.

I would buy these in a flash if released in the spring... otherwise, going to have to wait til my next winter time testing phase. *fingers crossed*

Same boat here. If they are not out before the snow melts here they will not even get a look from me. That's probably crazy thinking but that's how I roll.

I'm surprised you're looking at Ping Zap. You've always been a Callaway guy haven't you ?

Yes. They lost me last year when they messed up my MB order terribly. The website said 2 weeks backorder and then it turned into basically 4-5 months. Finally I had to return the two clubs they shipped me and cancel the order. There is a thread on it in the Deal or No deal Forum if you're so inclined. It's been a running joke that my stuff is always on backorder from them. I had a couple driver orders do the same crap. I guess you could say it was the proverbial straw that broke the camel's back. Basically I'm done with them for now.

We already knew they weren't hollow from the pics millerlowlife posted a while back. I really can't wait to hit these things.

I think it’s funny. It’s drawing in more players to ping. And it’s getting some pushback.

I do not see "why" the interest in a pure Ping blade (and I am a Ping fan), other than it has not been done before.

If I want a blade iron, I am reaching for Mizuno, Titleist or Miura. Ping is the farthest thing from my mind.

I’m a Ping fan as well and said the exact same thing the moment I saw the thread. A forged Ping MB just doesn’t jive well with me. Seems a bit of a novelty but I digress. BB

Yet everything about this screams PING. Why? Because they stuck a GIANT screw in the toe of a forged blade. They took the “blueprint” of a classic blade and made it more customizable and more likely considerably more forgiving.

Exactly! The best of both worlds!!!

Im sorry. But it literally cracks me up.

I’d bet anything this iron is as forgiving or more so than an s55 ... but because of the lack of a cavity it’s not “ ping “.

Another curious thing to me is why ping couldn’t figure out long ago that offset is what kept many away. If you’re producing cast irons. Why not make 2 offset option molds ? You’d be shocked how many players would play a bigger iron if the long irons didn’t have offset.

This iron and the i500 have made many people look at ping. After they get set on the irons then they buy drivers and wedges etc. it just makes good business sense. Why not sell to everybody ?

Agreed completely on the offset. I wish companies would provide irons other than blades with little offset. My baby cut turns into a slight draw when I go from a blade to GI irons. Whether that's mental or not, who knows, but that's what happens. I'd be curious if someone could use trackman to figure out what offset does to the face angle at impact. Even if it was .5 degrees, that's enough to mess with a preferred ball flight.

I'll be interested in seeing if these are more forgiving than the iBlade. That would be impressive if possible.

You guys are forgetting one thing. Only here in the social media golf world does anyone care about offset, bounce, topline or anything else. 95% of the golfing world buy clubs because they like the looks of them, read positive reviews, or got them cheap.
