Ping Blueprint forged irons- New photos added page 27

Recommended Posts

Im sorry. But it literally cracks me up.

I'd bet anything this iron is as forgiving or more so than an s55 ... but because of the lack of a cavity it's not " ping ".

Another curious thing to me is why ping couldn't figure out long ago that offset is what kept many away. If you're producing cast irons. Why not make 2 offset option molds ? You'd be shocked how many players would play a bigger iron if the long irons didn't have offset.

This iron and the i500 have made many people look at ping. After they get set on the irons then they buy drivers and wedges etc. it just makes good business sense. Why not sell to everybody ?

Agreed completely on the offset. I wish companies would provide irons other than blades with little offset. My baby cut turns into a slight draw when I go from a blade to GI irons. Whether that's mental or not, who knows, but that's what happens. I'd be curious if someone could use trackman to figure out what offset does to the face angle at impact. Even if it was .5 degrees, that's enough to mess with a preferred ball flight.

I'll be interested in seeing if these are more forgiving than the iBlade. That would be impressive if possible.

Absolutely. If offset helps some it stands to reason it would hurt those that don’t require that help. Or on the flip side if people claim offset can’t possibly hurt then it also can’t possibly help. So therefore it’s not needed.

I’m just saying a choice is what ping has needed for a long time.

Somehow missed this thread and these pictures of the Blueprint irons. These look absolutely perfect for a PING forged blade. I would love to have a set of these and combo them with the Anser forged irons from a few years ago. Those were an unbelievable set of irons and I played them for quite some time but they were literally too long in the short irons. Sounds crazy but they were high launch, low spin irons which didn’t really exist until then. I was hitting these sky high 7/8 irons that would fly 195-200/175-180 which was crazy.

Anser Forged (3-5)

Blueprint Forged (6-PW)

That would be an amazing set of irons.

Even the 3-4-5 irons in that Anser forged set were super high launching and they produced crazy low spin relative to their loft. I remember hitting a few 3 irons on Trackman that would spin in the 3000-3500 range while still launching at like 13-15 degrees. Trackman showed me hitting the 3 iron in the 250-255 range which was insane.

Welp, I've got the lessons scheduled, the money set aside for the fitting and clubs, so once they launch ill be ready. If the don't end up being a good fit, I'll check some other stuff out but I'm liking these the more I see of them.

Mostly PING clubs, with TaylorMade woods.

I’m sure these will a lot easier to hit then most pure bladed irons. After all, this is Ping and they will sprinkle their magic pixie dust on them for the playability factor:)

I like the looks of these as many do here, but to look at this from a business standpoint, aside from the 100 or so sets that may sell to members of forums like this, is it REALLY a sound business idea to make these available to the general public? I've had people at PING (I'm I'm the golf industry as a golf course GM) tell me that irons like the S-series/iBlades make up less than 2% of their own iron sales. I'd say these clubs would be a smaller subset of that.

As someone who sells PING, I just have to wonder how many sets of these the golfing public would actually buy. Of course I'd love to try them out and tinker with them, but I really don't see them selling that well overall. In the 15 years I've been at my current course, I've sold exactly one set of S-series/iBlades (outside of my own personal sets) to the public. I just have to wonder outside of gear heads like us (forum members), who is going to come in droves to PING for a club like this?

I think Ping could make this a “special order” only type of iron and totally make it work well for them.

That was my first thought, why not just make this a special release (like a Ping Vault release). That said, I want to see these versus the iBlade.

Do we even have specs yet?

Ping would sell a ton of these irons on looks alone...

Maybe they are primarily designed for Tour players. If Tour players play better, that brings more name recognition to Ping as a whole. Ping hasn't even said when exactly they are coming to retail, so they realize they are in no rush to make them.

This comment is pretty spot on. I had the opportunity to speak with John Solheim about the club and he confirmed that the Blueprint is going to be a Tour oriented offering with very limited weighting options (like some of their other recent designs). They've designed the club with relatively heavy "Tour" weighting that falls into a small window that can only be adjusted by the hosel and toe weights to a small degree. In other words, if you like a D5, you're in luck. If not, oh well....

I did not but I'm sure he's aware of it. I don't recall Ping playing it this close to the chest in the past.....until recently. Others on the forum seem to have the release dates in memory like their kids' birthdays though, and those voices have the club being introduced at the PGA show later this month, after all the smoke clears from the other OEMs' releases.
