The local Wilson rep stopped into the store I work in yesterday and said that they only made 8,000 units of this driver. So once this sells through then it is done. Plus he sent a couple of emails to his Corporate office and they really couldn't give a good reason why the heads are so heavy and why they didn't use or even offer a counter balance shaft. Also the center track weight is 8 grams if anyone didn't know.

I have a hard time imagining a driver to be sold worldwide had only 8,000 units made.

Wouldn’t surprise me after the Trition debacle.

I agree. Tim Clark kept talking about how this driver putting Wilson back in the premium driver space. If that is true you don't produce 8,000 drivers and then just say we are done. Sounds like a misinformed rep or a marketing ploy to me.

Gotta get a Cortex before they are gone forever!

Interesting comments about the head weight. The driver pictured in the first post of this thread has two gram weights in both the toe and the heel. I assumed that was for the tour van guys to add some hotmelt. Perhaps it was just to make it a playable weight. Maybe someone can swap out the heavier weight and give it a go. Not many players are going to fit into a driver that’s close to 215g with adapter.

8,000 drivers is about 10 per store in the U.S.

Sounds like it'll be a collector's item. Maybe that's why it has such a high price tag ? :D

Their website says something about the head being near 310 grams before they found ways of cutting down the head weight. That sounded strange to me. Only thing I know about head weight is that most heads are somewhere around 200 grams, no ? That's an awful lot of weight to get rid of to get down near 200.

There’s no way they are only planning on making 8,000. 8,000 went to stores already I could see. That’s almost $4 million, but still Wilson would have to hope for more.

I get a kick out of all these concern for depreciation on a driver. It’s a $499 driver gents, not a $100K Maserati!

Go hit go, go play with it and then either keep it or sell it. Rinse lather repeat.

Agreed. People here spend buying and selling clubs faster than a day trader. Just give Wilson your $499 and go home.

Could be an image thing. They have to avoid another Triton fiasco at all cost. If it doesn't sell, there won't be a huge abundance of excess drivers being sold for a fraction of msrp. If this does sell well enough, maybe they make another run of them, or possibly a small refresh.

Yeah agree. I kicked around drivers last year and could not stand the gaudy flying saucer look so bought a JDM unit at $800 for an R510 knockoff. Money well spent, but if this was around then $500 would like a bargain to me.

Tried the Cortex out today. Hit only 15-20 balls as I was feeling a bit rusty.

This thing is gorgeous. Beautiful shape and lovely appearance at address. A powerful, solid feel at impact that delivers low bullets. I don't think the Atmos is for me as my launch was super low. That said, this is easily the best driver W/S has ever made. The season's over here, but I'd love to give it a whirl next year with a 44.5" shaft that suits me better.

Held this in hand today. Looks better in person. As others have said, this head feels heavy. But, I like that about it. The blue Atmos feels like a noodle in stiff flex with my highly accurate wiggle test. Could be the head weight. Only complaint is it seemed, at first glance, that the face looks a little closed.

Didn't get chance to hit it. The guy I know at the shop said it was ok. It doesn't sound like they were too impressed with the price point. They said that no one buys Wilson and they wish it was at $399. They volunteered that info. Just thought it was funny that they echoed the same sentiments as a lot on this forum.

I'll still try it out eventually. It does look high end.

Tried the Cortex today. Looks really impressive - like a Rogue and an M3 had a baby. Definitely not a deep driver from front to back. Anyone know the lie angle, seemed upright to me? Felt solid at impact, but not as good as the G400. I hit about 10 balls with it and they were all going a little more left than the G400. I hit the G400 right after and got 3 MPH of ballspeed immediately. I couldn’t get the spin much above 2,000 with the Atmos Blue TS 6S. The Cortex did roll out more and the total distance was right with the G400.

The Cortex is very nice. Seems as good as anything else out there. For now. Nice that the PGA Superstore Schaumburg finally swapped out their Triton display for the Cortex.

Reading various forums there’s a few that don’t want to grasp this concept and that just because those who have hit it thinks it performs that people are going to just go seek it out especially when most are saying it’s nice but isn’t blowing what’s currently on the market out of the water.

So far, I've only really seen two reviews with numbers. One from another site, and one member here. Both reviews had the ball speed a few mph less than their respective gamers. I'll be interested to see a review come out with it beating the head it's up against.

Not many with numbers yet, seen comments around here of those that swung it. Another site had some guys in an event with Wilson and a couple posted their numbers and thoughts.

I haven’t seen anything that would say spend $500 now and not wait for early next year when all the big brands release their new stuff or pass up on the ts line, or pass over the recently reduced old stuff.

So true, and the Ghibli I no longer own is case in point. Drivers are CHEAP!!

I was told 8,000 units and once all are sold no more will be made. They are employing Mizuno wood program. Make only enough you know you can sell.

Just hit this tonight. Weird club

Mid flight, draw spinny shots. Hard to fade. Cant imagine this being a winner of any kind.

Did you have it set up with the 8gram weight on the heel? If anything, the adjustments on this club are affective.
