Too Cold For Senior Play

yesterday we closed out our course with a morning round. eight am start and a nice walk thru eighteen.

it had rained overnight so we had a misty drizzly beginning that tapered off, a forty something degree morning.

today it was just a rainy mucky mess that changed into snow.

any further local golf will take place at other venues that stay open thru the winter months.

we have a few heated ranges nearby to prevent swing rust and boredom.

 

you know it's over when your main bag comes in for a full clean out.

38 degrees today but no wind. Walked 9 and no problem keeping warm. Course was a bit soggy but we (my son and I) had a great time. I played a short hickory set (Iron, Mashie, Niblick, putter, one ball and a divot tool). Nice to get out at the end of November in Michigan. Snow storm coming tonight. 5-8 inches. No golf for a while now...

Welcome to DFW. If you layer the good high tech clothes, have some hand warmers and the right stuff, we play down to about 40....without wind chill. Beats looking at snow covered courses in Northeast, or where I'm originally from Chiraq.

punch the turf with a phillips screwdriver. use one with a nice fat handle.

75* for the first tee time today. then quickly warmed to mid 80's....

Don’t know if I’m as senior as many here (55), but myself and best friend (59) are probably the worst I know. We’ll play in some pretty bad conditions. Mid 30’s with wind and clouds. But as this winter sets in I’ve noticed he’s becoming less likely to play on those days. We’ve had plenty already. I would expect though that come February or March, when we haven’t been out for quite a while, he’ll be ready again.

In the UK we have rubber tees like a truncated cone for winter use,normally three of varying heights for driver,fairway and iron shots tied together with a length of cord.

Was hitting some balls earlier this morning here in Tampa Bay area; it was about 48 degrees....about as cold as I want to play in here in the Sunshine state.

In college once, a buddy and I went to play and they wouldn't let us on because the greens were frozen. That won't happen these days. Somewhere around 50-55 is about my minimum- if sunny, no wind, and I haven't been out in a long while, maybe high end of the 40's.

one local course used to mark trails for cross country skiers during the winter. even rented equipment.

couple years ago that stopped.

shame.

was good fun to see the place with wildlife around and some regular players on the fairways.

Skiing was great today after 12 inches of snow overnight.
