Callaway epic flash? is this legit? (New Pics added Pg 1)

Not sure if anyone's answered this...

If you order the Epic Flash SZ with a longer shaft how do they adjust the head weight to keep the swing weight at the specified number?

Typically Callaway doesn't adjust swingweight for overlength or shortened clubs.

That’s not true. They will adjust the weight if at all possible (not all combinations are possible). But you might need to specify that you’re wanting a specific swing weight when you order.

Every Epic and Rogue I've ordered for my customers has not been adjusted for swingweight. Even had a long talk with my inside rep (every account has an inside and outside rep) about it, and it's been company policy NOT to adjust swingweight. They will offer weights that the end user customer (or account) can use to adjust swingweight, but have specifically said they will not adjust swingweight. They would not adjust swingweight my Staff/Advocate Epic or Rogue (I play them shorter than standard). My rep sent me weights to do it myself. If they won't custom swingweight their own staff's clubs, they won't to the retail customer, either. And this isn't unique to Callaway, to be fair. TaylorMade does not either, and Titleist is getting to where it's hit or miss as to whether they will.

When I spoke to Callaway Customer Service a couple weeks ago, they told me they will not use hot melt to adjust swing weight but they will provide extra weight if a specific swing weight is requested. That's what they did when they provided 2 sliding weights on the original Epic when a shorter club length was requested. However, I don't think they provide any swing weight adjustment unless a specific swing weight is requested. Also, if the requested shaft length is too short to fall within the limits of the weight they can add to the clubhead for that particular club, they may not be able to match the requested swing weight.

Yes, they will offer additional weights (sometimes make you purchase them), but that's not hitting a specific swingweight. For example, if you need precisely X grams to hit your desired swingweight, but the weight is only offered in X+3 grams, then that's your only option. It's not like PING where if you request a D3 driver at 3/4" short, you will more than likely get exactly that swingweight without having to replace weights yourself.

It's not the end of the world that they don't, as the average golfer doesn't even have a clue what swingweight is anyway. But I personally think that at the price of new clubs today, companies should make more of an effort to do it. Hot melt isn't that expensive to use.

They also have heavier adaptors as well to bring up weight

Every driver is really loud when hitting it indoors in a hitting bay. Can't grasp the actual sound until you get it outdoors.

Not true, I was at club champion in a confined space indoors. My Epic sounded good. The PXG X sounded great. The Cobra F9 sounded phenomenal. Then I hit the Epic Flash SZ and it was loud as %$#%!!!

I hit the 10.5 Epic Flash (non-SZ) on my course the other day with a Pro V1x set to neutral/standard. I put in my GP6X shaft into it. And it was the same loud tin can sound (maybe aluminum bat) that I heard indoors. The difference was that outdoors the sound wasn't hurting my ears, and you can possibly get passed it if it performed. But the sound was still unpleasant.

That said, I hit the Epic Flash perfectly and right down the middle. But the ball flight was so high that it was ridiculous. I am a high ball hitter already, but 1.5* shouldn't have made that big of a difference (I play Epic SZ at 9* neutral/standard albeit heavy weight forward).

What I want to know is what Tour pro is playing a standard version Head. And when I say standard version I mean one that’s not a 2 or 3 diamond head.

So far every up close photo where I could see the hosel I’ve seen a diamond head out on tour. Reminds me of the old Taylormade days

I've yet to see one. The retail version is probably fine. I just want to know what the differences are.

1&2 diamond heads are smaller deeper heads while the 3 diamond is a fairly large head

Really? Verified? Never heard of that before. They may use tip weights for graphite....but a heavier adapter I haven’t heard of...

Just the different options... had a couple custom builds and it was one of the options.

Not sure what was used.. but i know i did not get an extra weight

This is exactly what I heard eavesdropping on a rep this afternoon. But id really like to see side by side differences. Granted, ive never been a fan of deeper faces. I think im the only one (small few?) who likes the look of the retail head.

I really want to buy the EF SZ, but until we have more clarity on the whole diamond heads versus retail heads situation, no way I am pulling the trigger.

The new PXG GEN 2 driver has me really tempted....Cobra F9 is also a possibility.

Don't think we will be getting info from Callaway on this. At least in the past, they haven't spoke to the difference between the different tour models. I didn't even know the Rogue Sub Zero-V existed until someone found it on eBay. I don't think they would volunteer the fact that their staff players are not playing what we buy at retail. Whether they are drastically different or not. It paints a picture of the retail model not being good enough. The GolfWRX crowd may not care, but if the every day guy was told that the pros aren't playing the same club, I don't think it would help sales from a marketing perspective.

Why the curiosity? Even if you knew what they were playing it is still fit to that player so it has zero bearing on anyone elses choice in driver

I just hit these for the first time and crap the standard is amazing. I'm taking my shaft down on Saturday to see how it does on the launch monitor. I hit the new F9 and the sound of the epic flash was way better as was the feel. Looking forward to Saturday

I think you might be confused, lol. I kid but literally no one has that about the F9 vs Flash. Always interesting to see how it soundfeels to different people.
