Best 3 wood

Recommended Posts

Been playing a Titleist 915F 3 wood with a Rouge Black 75 shaft for a while now. Didn't think I'd need to change until something inside it broke and was rattling around inside the head. Couldn't get the broken piece out so it was time for a new one.

Tested several and thought it'd be hard to pass up on the Callaway Rouge Sub Zero. That one felt the best of all, good numbers on the launch monitor, but then got to the Titleist TS2 & TS3s. The TS2 was nice, but the TS3 was even better. Sim. numbers to the Rouge, tighter dispersion, and more of a solid sound/feel. Even gave it a day to think about it, tried 'em again, and decided on the TS3, (15 degree, Evenflow White 75G shaft). Couldn't be happier. Only one round so far but it's long, consistent, easy off the turf & light rough, and much more forgiving than the old 915F.

Best one I’ve owned is g400 standard with a Tensei pro blue. Has a sweet feel and has a really flat bottom. Gets out there off the tee and I can hit it off the dirt. Close 2nd is my old gamer, TEE EX9...stupid long.

I game the same set up! Super consistent and forgiving.

I tested the M4, M3, M4 Tour, Rogue, Rogue SZ, Ping G400, TS2.....I am a high spin player usually and need to keep ball flight down on my 3W.

Tested the TS3 at 13.5* with the HZRDUS Smoke Black 70S and launch characteristics were amazing and spin was around the 2800rpm mark.

May get the 5W to match

Another vote for Alpha 816. I'm starting to look around a bit, but for no other reason than winter boredom. I haven't seen anything yet able to beat its performance or looks.

Glad to see some late TS3 support here.

I replaced my 917 F3 with the TS3 and am very pleased so far.

See my post on the switching to the Rogue from the Alpha. I am 15 yards longer with my Rogue versus my Alpha. They are ridiculously easy to hit off tee or fairway and set up wonderfully if you want to shape your shots right or left.

The tinkerer in me misses the adjustable hosel, but my scores do not miss it. Handicap is back to around 3 and trending towards scratch with my newest editions (Honma TW445 Driver).

I'm not a big fan of the tribal target on the face, the raised details on the crown or carbon fiber; but, I think ill have to give the rouge a try.

I tend to use my 3w off the tee more than the fairway so 15 yards would be a big deal. Depending on the course I'll use the 5w with a tour blue for greens in two.

The raised things on the top of the club actually kind of randomly fall off, at least on mine. Not the best idea, but I won’t argue with the performance.

I love G400 stretch for its distance and penetrating ball flight, Nike Vapor pro, Callaway new steel head......

But I just keep on coming back to touredge CB pro F2 limited 13.5 that I bought brand new foe $100, titanium cup face with slip stream sole makes it bombing weapon off the tee but also rare, as good on the fairways and light rough than anything that I have ever tried, I don’t know if it will ever leave my bag

I bagged a Sonartec SS-3.5 14 deg. w/ Aldila NV-85x for years until it was stolen. Been playing a TEE CB5 w/ AD Di-8x for a while and I've had a hard time finding anything else that is good enough to make me take it out...I feel like I've hit 'em all and in order for me to make a change, there has to be a SIGNIFICANT difference, and from what I've experienced, there just isn't much difference in any of them today (other than some very minor adjustability tweaks).

That Sonartec was an absolute sledgehammer. Sure wish I had that combo back...

2016 M2 Deep Face is an absolute legend.

Tour Edge CBX is also a great club.

2016 M2 was a great club, but the upright lie angle it came with caused a lot of left misses for better players.

The Tour Issue version (deep face) seemed to have a flatter lie angle and sit more open.

Another vote for the 2016 M2 DF.

Even in HL (16.8), it's an absolute monster. For being a fairly small footprint, it's not as demanding as one might think either.

Had my 16 M2 HL DF on a GCQuad again this past weekend and I was shocked as always by the numbers. It legitimately competes with my driver in terms of ball speed and spin. I can see mid 150's at 2500 spin on well hit shots. This is at 16.8 degrees of face loft!

It's a monster head to say the least.

I went to Golf Galaxy with all intentions of buying the TM M3 3 wood because I have and like the TM M3 Driver. I hit about 20 balls with the M3, M4 and Ping G400. My distance was similar with all 3 however my right and left differential was substantially smaller with the Ping G400. The Ping G400 was also $70 less. I took it to the range and played with the adjustability and ended up with their flatter slightly closed setting and got an excellent high long ball flight. I've always used TM for drivers and fairway woods but love the Ping G400 3 W and its now in the bag.

I change 3 woods almost every year, occasionally twice a year. They are all equally good and bad for me, just in different ways. That said, I put the Rogue Subzero 3 wood bag last year and really liked it. It will be starting the next season in the bag as well, but I doubt it will survive 2 seasons in a row, based on my past history.
