Epon 705 Limited Edition Black

I’ve played with my beloved Epon 502’s for many years but decided after 8 years, it was time for a change. Went to my fitter, who is terrific and while I hit a bunch of stuff, nothing felt better than the Epon 705’s. Just super soft and a good 10-15 yards longer than the 502’s and that’s without jacked up lofts.

Then fitter tells me he’s got a couple sets of the Limited Edition Black 705’s coming in next week and for a bit more coin decided to go for it.

Wondering if anyone has hit the blacks or knows the difference in feel (fitter says softer).

Had the personals in black and they feel the same- Epons are imo the softest you can get your hands on, but the new matte black just looks cooler! No feel difference but pair them with a black shaft and black Grip and it’ll look sweet!

Yes, got them w black shafts and black grips. Just have not seen them in the flesh!

I also wonder how the finish will hold up. And which black wedges to put with them?

Told by fitter that won’t be an issue due to some ion plating on the irons.

Awesome news.

FYI the lofts are 2 degrees stronger on the 705s than the 502s

I’m aware and I’m not the expert here on loft but loft is not the only factor, meaning CG is also a factor.

Basically the lofts on the 705’s are stronger because the cg is so low. If the lofts were 2 degrees weaker, at least in my case, I would be shooting the ball straight up in the air.

I'm not a JDM guy, but I must admit these are pretty sweet looking. Good luck and enjoy!

Come to the dark side DP?

I was also not a fan of JDM gear in my earlier days of playing. Thought they were for slower swingers and too much flash and dazzle ala Honma gear.

Went for a fitting years ago and lined up the usual suspects of TM, Nike, and Callaway and wasn’t feeling anything. Then the fitter hands me a club I’ve never heard of before - EPON. Thought there’s no way I’m playing a Brand I’ve never heard of before. Took one swing and it was the best feeling I could have ever imagined. Thought it was a fluke, but it actually got BETTER with each swing!

I now look at the US gear that’s out there as utter crap. I still play a US driver and putter but I do believe the Japanese forging houses have it over on US/China OeMs.

That will look sweet.

I will be afraid to travel with them?. Have to get some iron covers for that.

I think I'm going to get a different set of irons as backup. Haha

I have my 502’s as back up. But even with that, I’ve never been the type to baby my clubs. Only time I would put headcovers on them would be when I travel. Would love to get the Epon covers but not at $99?

I found some neoprene ones for like $20 I use all the time because I usually sell to often.

I haven't seen any reviews on these newer 'tour' version of the OTi shafts. Please let us know how they play.

Great looking set. I've never hit anything Epon but my 302's, but am a massive Endo fan as I've loved the stuff they've done for others over the years.

You should check out Boyd Blade & Ferrule to really put the cherry on top of those with a sick ferrule! I actually just got a set of the Warriors color ferrules, some DG TI shafts, and some new blue MCCs to rebuild my Golden State 302s.

Can't remember if Swisstrader is in Thailand, but if he is - Golfcraft still have silver weave look ferrules (just without the small 'e' epon on them now)...

My 301's below back when they were black... ( the head covers for travelling were 'free' so to speak, still have them for plane journeys etc). Wasn't a PVD type finish, so rusted like h@ll in Thailand which is how they ended up copper-chrome...

Dang! Those 302’s still look great.

I’m not in Thailand. Complete opposite: NJ?

They're so old they're 301s :taunt:

They don't look like that now though... refinished to copper-chrome back around January 2009 and ageing like Helen Mirren - see below
