How do you practice

What drills do you do

I promised myself to get my game back to a single digit handicap (currently 14). I play each Saturday morning in a league and expect to play 40-50 rounds a year. Living in Florida I can play and practice year round.

This is what I am currently doing.

Sunday - putting, chipping and shots within 50 yards of the green. I spend 1/2 hour chipping and 1/2 hour putting. Putting I vary my training but spend the most time working on 4-6 foot putts.

Wednesday - irons and woods. I hit a approx. 10 balls per club. Selecting targets to aim at and make adjustments to my grip/swing as necessary to get the results I want.

Saturday - play golf.

During the week I try to practice my putting stroke, I may get to do this for approx. 30 minutes.

What does everyone else do?

Well, when the weather was still decent my routine was:

 

Mon-Fri: 90min each day dedicated to putting and chipping only.

Wed: 9 holes w/ my league (basically just preparation for the weekend)

Sat & Sun: 18 holes each day

 

Now, I try to get out whenever I can...weather permitting and am in the gym five days a week.

usually oneday a week.. ( I have a very young child )

 

~30 min of putting... I have this game with about 10 flags and use 2 balls..I go around clockwise then counter clockwise.. 2 putts is par.. my best is -8

 

~60 min of hitting balls.. a couple to 3 irons only.. odds then next week evens. then some woods.. always the driver.

 

I dont practice chipping much at all..I get enough practice when I play since I dont hit many greens in reg. :cheesy: My bunker game is usually good, but after getting in 10 greenside bunkers lasttime out and not saving one...I might think about.. :tongue:

I'm a workhorse. Here's my general schedule:

 

Tuesday - Short game session at range, sometimes followed by a few holes (in summer months).

Thursday - Short and/or Long game session. I tend to work on Driver on this session, sometimes followed by a few holes (in summer months).

Saturday - 18 holes followed by a practice session to iron out problems.

Sunday - (sometimes) 9 holes, followed by some practice

 

* Long game range session

- Easy wedges to start out

- Punch shots, half shots

- Short irons (full shots)

- Mid irons

- Long irons

- Fairway woods

- Driver

- Alternate with intermittent drills that focus on problems you wish to work on.

- Occasionally, "Play" a round at the range. Hit Driver, then Wedge, then a long iron, then a mid-iron, etc. etc., as if you were playing a real course.

- Work on fades/draws, low shots, punch-outs, and other specialty shots that will help you on the course.

 

* Short game range session

- Putting first (while your hands have the most feeling and touch)

- Chipping

- Pitching

- Focus on distance control, and 'dial in' distances with various clubs

- Sand Bunker shots (of various lengths and trajectory)

- Finish with more chipping, and medium-distance pitching

- Alternate with intermittent drills, that focus on problems you want to work on.
