PXG 0311T vs AP2

Recommended Posts

I have no comparison pics but the T are definitely closer to the AP2 than the P. Although the AP2 still have a slightly thinner top line and slight thinner sole. I actually am debating between the 2 right now but, am leaning more towards the pxg cause I have had a set and miss them. But to answer your question , the T are closer in comparison.

If you have the money, go PXG. It's an itch you'll forever want to scratch and wish you did, if you don't go that route. With that said, I preferred the 716 AP2 to the Gen 1 0311T and you'll save money... the 718 AP2 look even better but I haven't gamed them. The other route you could go is with some custom built Miuras if you have the money... I would.

T is definitely closer in size and offset.

Save your money for lessons and keep the AP2’s. They PXG aren’t any better than AP2’s.

I’m not a hater. I have a set of Gen 1 sitting in my basement right now. Fine golf clubs. They just aren’t better than my Hogan PTx and I’ve owned AP2’s as well. They aren’t better than either set. They do FEEL and sound softer because of the thin face and the magic goo, but they don’t perform any better.

It’s Just marketing my friend, but if you have your mind made up, I guess you should find out yourself.

I can’t speak for the Gen 2. Maybe they made some minor improvements but I can’t imagine they are terribly different.

P.s. I should edit this to be fair. The Gen 1 0311t’s were a bit longer and flew a touch higher than my Hogans or my AP2 714’s. If that’s important to you it may be a selling point. I didn’t care for hot faced, higher flying, stronger lofted clubs. Not a benefit for me but it might be for others. When I said they “didn’t perform better” I meant specifically for me and my game.

I have had two sets of 0311t’s and three sets of AP2’s (one 716 and two 718 sets). PXG’s were cool but the AP2’s are just as good in every way.

Zach Johnson says stick with the AP2's :taunt:

The T's are definitely the closest fit to AP2's, the players have noticeably more offset.

I really like the look of the PXG T's - but equally it is hard to overlook that Perez is the only high profile player I can think of who raised his game when he made the switch, whilst Johnson, Schwartzel, Horschel, etc have declined. CH3 also won with Titleists within weeks of leaving PXG.

I played the 714 AP2s and the 718 AP2s for most of this year. I recently switched to the PXG 0311T about three months ago, so here's my .02: I think the 0311T is definitely the more comparable model. The 0311P has more offset and a little clunkier in comparison. The PXGs feel amazing. Definitely a little softer for me compared to the AP2. I did find the 0311T to be slightly more forgiving than my AP2s on miss-hits too. However, I haven't noticed a huge difference in performance (or my scores, lol). It took me a good month to get the 0311Ts dialed in. They are a smidge longer, especially in the longer irons, but should be expected with the stronger lofts. They fly a tad bit higher than my AP2s (same shafts). That also took a bit to get used to. My only complaint on the 0311T is that sometimes they have been inconsistent, distance wise. Theres a few times where I hit a clean/flush shot with the same club, same swing, that had a 10-15yard difference in distance. I've skied and few greens and came up short a few times due to this inconsistency. I've never had the challenge of not being able to trust the distance I can hit with a specific club. I'm talking clean hit shots too.. So, I'm still puzzled by that. I've always wondered if any other PXG users experienced this. Maybe its just me.. who knows. But, I would definitely give the PXGs a try. I'm still liking mine a lot but just questioning that distance thing. I will admit though, I just snagged a cheap set of JPX 900 Tours to test out (true club ho fashion) against the PXGs. I will say, IMO, if you are leaning AP2, try to find a good condition set of the 714s. For me, they performed equally the same as this years model, maybe even slightly better. I wish I would of kept mine as a second set! Good luck!

Never got along with AP2....tried em every year...look great, feel decent, super easy to hit for that size head but life of me never got comfortable with them....idk what it is about these irons but never hit em consistently....I hit my MB better and other CB's as well better

I scratch my head every time

Pxg 0311T Just arrived today, 1 week within ordering them....they look just like a ping players head...glad I didnt get the players series as I wouldn't want them any bigger

These are very comparable to AP2 size wise and sole width (maybe tad wider than my old 718 ap2)

You are not alone. I try them every year as well, but no matter what shaft combo I can not get the spin rate down. I don’t have this issue with any other irons.

I have the original 0311t and own the 718 ap2. Definitely the t are more comparable. Owned a set of Gen 2 0311t and did not get along with them.

The 0311t are excellent clubs and so are the ap2. My honest opinion is that I like the ap2 slightly more just from a feel standpoint; head looks a little shorter from heel to toe which I like. In all honesty, I could play either very easily so get the ones you think feel the best. I preferred the Gen 1 0311t so try them out too. (edit, I meant I preferred the 0311t gen1 vs the Gen 2 0311t).

My Gen 1 0311T have been in my bag the longest of any iron set yet I am getting the itch to try something new and didn’t care for the Gen 2’s in comparison. I loved all of the AP2 but have not hit the 718’s ..... yet.

Same story here, just couldnt find anything to replace them. Ap2's look doesnt really standout from 0311t and feels a little clicky. 718 is again not so different. Gen2 seems the most reasonable upgrade but yet they give almost identical numbers, only slightly better in toe misses but i dont miss hit that much to justify the extra bucks.

Tough to replace the 0311t once you have them in the bag. Some of my buddies never wanted to try 0311 so they have the ego to go after new clubs.

I have the 718 AP2, PXG Gen 1 T's and Player sets...so all 3. Selling the AP2s and keeping both sets of PXGs. With that said, all 3 are excellent...just wanted to try something different and the PXGs were as good in every way.
