What is the most "tour issue" club of all time?

Recommended Posts

I think it has to be the (360cc) TaylorMade 300 Tour Driver because certainly....

No other club has EVER earned a name like this one:

'THE HOLY GRAIL'

This is also the club that started the whole movement (on BSG) toward's Tour-issued equipment!

There was nothing that even came close to it at the time!

:golfer:

Great call. I still have mine.....it is still a very good driver

Just got one this evening!

Location:  Colorado Springs, CO
Handicap:  3

The RBZ Tour 8* "P" head... a tour issue model with several features that set it apart from anything available to the general public...

This particular head in it's neutral/ standard 8* loft setting measures in at

8.4* loft with 4* open face angle. In it's lowest loft setting the face angle

will be about 6.7* open. Definitely anti left... also head weight including the

adapter of this head was only 193 grams , leaving plenty of room for hotmelt to

be added for swing weight and fine tuning spin and flight....

Three Old School Titleists make my list --

1. As noted by many above, the Titleist 970 fairways. I have both the 15 and 20 degrees. Really solid feel, not very forgiving, pretty small head size by current standards.

2. Titleist 975 LFF driver. It's not a typo. Titleist produced the LFF for a brief period (before MacGregor responded to the name and possible copyright infringement). It was a 350 cc head, similar in shape, but larger, to the legendary 975D. It's still playable...

3. 681 Titleist irons. Truly beautiful, but I never had enough game to play them...

Rarest one I ever had was a Titleist 975 LFF with a Fujikura Six. LFF meant Let the F'er Fly

Bought it from a retail 2nd Swing location back before their bankruptcy (they are back again but have not opened a Michigan location again). If I remember correctly I paid the same price as the retail LFE version (around $200) and sold it the same night for $850.

> The original TM 510 DF was a real game changer. TM 200 Duffy fairway woods or the TM HFS versons. Adams Peanut hybrids. TM 300 forged Lehman grinds as far as irons go. Wedges? How about the Cleveland 588 Tour Satins, or any of the satin Vokey "Tour Proto" offerings? Putters have to go to the Circle Ts.

My choices as well. I would add the Holy Grail 300 and the Tour Only Issue TaylorMade Burner TP HFS 3W and 5W. Strictly tour issue only. The HFS 3 wood is smaller than most smaller 5 woods and the HFS 5 wood is smaller than most smaller 7 woods. Simply beautiful FWs.

I'm sure most of these have been said, but I remember a few from back in the old BS forum days:

- The Adams 4050 fairway woods. Predecessor to the widely popular RPM line and they had a deeper face IIRC (never saw one just from pics)

- R7 Forged. These were reportedly a one-off for Mike Weir for about a year before TM Japan made a run of limited quantities to retail. I could be getting my years mixed up but I seem to remember that being the timeline.

- 580XD TP...you were king sauce if you had one of these.

- R7 HFS fairway wood....I wanted one so badly because of all the hype but to this day I couldn't tell you the difference.

- Callaway FT-i LCG and Nike Sumo Squared Tour 5900. While they were eventually released to retail about 6 months after tour they were all the rage in the high launch/low spin craze along with the Cobra L4V X Driver.

- Cobra also had the X-Speed drivers that were the prototypes to the Speed Pro S and D models that were in play by Ogilvy, Gore, and Villegas when they had their heydays around 2005-2006. It was a cool little driver and I immediately jumped on the Speed Pro S when it came out as it was basically a rebadged 905R with a hotter face.

- The Nike Split Cavities and the Vapor Pro Combo with the black swoosh (I forget the name of it now but it had some different moniker and a slight change in the blade shape and size I think).

Taylormade R510TP - Speeder 757 Sonartec NP-99 14* and 17* - NV Green 85 Nickent Genex 3DX 21* - Dynamic Gold SL Titleist 660 4-P - Dynamic Gold Cleveland 54* and 59* - Dynamic Gold Scotty Cameron Teryllium

Only seen once in person but Mark Calcavecchia's PING Eye 2s with minimal/no offset and a thinner overall profile would've broken the internet if they showed up here back in the day.

Whenever this thread comes up, I always think of these:

https://forums.golfwrx.com/discussion/1109503/tour-issue-ben-hogan-apex-edge-pro-raw-heads-rocco-mediate-rocco-rifle-x-flex-shafts-lamkin-full/p1

Apex Edge Pro's in raw custom tweaked and stamped for Rocco. That's pretty exclusive!

Probably the Titleist 975E-FS. Was a proto for the JVS. Duval played this driver for many years. I have attached some pictures below.

I68HM1AN7YF6.jpegBy the way, if someone has a 975E-FS, L-FF, E-VS, J-FS or 975D tour issue that they would like to sell, please send me a message!!!!!! ?

Sorry for the topic bump. I simply had to add these photos.
