Stu, Festivus came from the TV show Seinfeld. They had a party and no one celebrated the traditional holidays so they celebrated their own made up holiday. So they had "Festivus for the rest of us."

Stu, Festivus came from the TV show Seinfeld. They had a party and no one celebrated the traditional holidays so they celebrated their own made up holiday. So they had "Festivus for the rest of us."

 

And....you had the feats of strength, the airing of grievances (usually while everyone was eating), and instead of a tree, you had an aluminum pole.

 

There might have been other "things" but those come to mind first.

If Wikipedia is accurate, it goes back to 1966 and was merely popularized by that particular Seinfeld episode. :)

Yesterday while my wife was out doing some last minute shopping I took these beauties that I just purchased from Teevons and threw them in a box, wrapped them up, and slid the package behind the Christmas tree:
