350 milled putters

Recommended Posts

350 Milled is the old C&L putters right, and now its just Chip Usher? If so then yes they make nice putters, it was actually my first ever custom putter. I got the CL1 heavy, which was 368g vs the 350g head. It has a good soft feel, but responsive off the face. Basically you still know where on the face you made contact.

I think there's 2 things that equate to lower prices vs. other putter makers.

1) Sell more putters at lower price vs fewer putters at a higher price point (makes sense).

2) Maybe they do less grinding/polishing/softening of the lines on the putter than other putter makers. Example being my CL1 bumpers are not softened like a BM DH89. The just have sloping angle and straight edges, and not softened edges of the bumpers at all, if that makes sense? If you look as a BM DH89 bumpers vs Cl1 and BM 007 you'll see what I mean. Obviously these miniscule detail have ZERO bearing on performance, and are only cosmetic.

Honestly they make nice putters at a great price point. You can't go wrong if you know what head style and hosel config you like.

What model are you interested in? Also I believe they can grind down the rounded heel of a CL2 to make it have sharper lines like an Anser2/Newport2 vs a CL1/Anser sloping heel if that's a look your into.

EDIT: after writing this post I'm know looking into a CL-M lol

From how I understood it. The guy who owns it now is one guy. He used to make them then had to quit for a while because of family deals and is making a comeback. I'm not sure what I'm going to get yet. I told him I wanted something similar to my NP2 but with a little more weight (Greens get thick in NC in the winter months). Never had a custom so wanting to go through the process and not spend 800+ the first go around

I bet Jimmy over at 303 Milled is tickled with that name.

Probably about as pleased as LaMont was with LambCrafted. Flattery and imitation, LaMont. As little solace as that provides when we balance the books.

Matt,

Lee registered the name 350 Milled in 2007. That is way before 303 Milled came on board.

Good morning guys,

I am not real board active yet as I am working to bring 350Milled.com back into the picture. Thought I may give a little history for the record.

I was a customer of Chip's clubmaker business (he's still the best in my mind here) for a few years. We became friends and started talking putters, collecting, the market at the time. We were off and on talking about a putter line for his business. We talked about some of the nicer lines and availability/pricing. I don't think Chip really saw a standout for his business (correct me Chip is that's a wrong impression). He called me one day and said why not start a putter company ourselves. At the time, the 350 gram 009 with custom stamps was an on fire desire of many putter junkies but were hard to get AND that price was up there. We wanted to bring a USA one piece milled putter to the market with the option of customers having their stamp design done at a great price point. We toyed with names a good bit. Chip liked C&L, I liked 350 Milled. So we used both basically. I did register and have owned the 350milled URL since February 2007. On a handshake only, we made a nice investment in our idea. It took off and did well by word of mouth.

My wife had fought kidney disease for years and was on dialysis (she passed in 2016) Over the years with that going on, I would be the first to say I didn't have the time for the putter business toward the end of our partnership. Toward the end of C&L in 2014 ish, Chip was doing more than his share of the business. We made the decision to basically stop operating C&L/350Milled. I kept the 350milled name, Chip started his new venture with Black Lab. He's expanded his line of putters and offers great putters and as always I'm sure awesome customer service

Just as we started on a handshake, we parted ways the same way - we agreed on asset values and I kept the 350milled name.

This year I decided to bring back 350milled on my own. I'm in the process of getting the website back up, have been selling some putters (built or heads only for the DIY guys) on a limited basis. I have some 303 mallets and anser/Newport style heads I am handling myself right now. I have more of the same heads in carbon/stainless, Carbon flownecks, and carbon/stainless Anser2/NP2 style on the way. Still milled like they were in 2007.

I won't be doing welds and custom stuff other than stamping to start so I can keep an attractive price point.

There are some great options putter wise today, Chip has a nice expanded line of heads, you want custom go see LaMont - it's been cool to see his growth from the days we started right here on Golfwrx back in 2007.

Hope you all had a nice Christmas.

Sadly, Lee Harville(hoganapex) passed away recently. He was a friend, we played many rounds of golf together. And I was also a customer of both him and Chip. He hand delivered me a left over C&L headcover he had left over for free not that long ago. That’s the kind of guy he was. I’ll cherish my first edition C&L 350Milled putter as one of the jewels of my collection.

Oh man I saw recently that he was ill but didn't know it was this serious, that's sad to hear he made a great looking and feeling putters. I talked with him a bit and it was always great conversation about putters and golf.

I have one from him and chip that I luckily was able to grab used. It's not how I would spec it out looks wise but they're rare in lefty and honestly feel amazing. This is it here:

Sorry for posting on this old thread, but came across it on a search.

I have two of the old C&L putters (lefty) from the 2008 time frame.  I've been really tempted to clear out all my Scotty Camerons and stick with these as gamers.  They haven't seen the course in probably 10 years but were very nice feeling (soft) putters.  Both of mine are beached and have a very soft feel to them that I really like.

Those are the 3rd and 4th ones I've seen in LH. There are more but not many and no idea where they are located.

I'm semi tempted to send mine out for modification so it's playable to my setup, but for now it's in the collection.

I’ve been thinking about sending my oil can one in to get a sight line in place of the dot, and take it to a shiny black oxide finish.  Possibly re-mill the face.  Would like to find a way to drop about 10g off the weight as well.  I’m used to my SC Mil Spec which is lighter.

not sure that’s worth $200 to get there though.  Or where to send it.
