I play the standard G400. It is a fabulous driver. I don’t feel like it is the only one I could play. Lots of fabulous drivers. If I wasn’t gaming Ping, the other drivers I would test are Titleist TS2, Srixon 785, Tour Edge EXS, TaylorMade M4 and the (getting overlooked again) Mizuno ST190/190G.

Have not yet seen the new Callaway but also a possibility. Liked the Rogue more than the Epic but liked the slightly snaller G400 more than either. Might also try the Titleist TS3. I have hit past Titleist drivers well and the new ones are a step up in balllspeed.

Ping is one I have liked the low-spin heads in because I get plenty of launch. I had an M1 440 but combined with a low launch shaft I did not hit it consistently well. Big difference with the Ping.

I would rather stick to drivers a little smaller footprint-wise than 460cc but that is getting harder to find. Mine is 445cc and if there was a hot-faced driver that set up to my eye and was 400 to 425cc, I’d be interested. I swing the larger footprints a little slower. Another preference of mine for alignment is a silver face on the driver contrasted against a black or gray crown, but that is more important to me in the fairways (which is why my Cally Razr X Black 4 wood still hangs around.)

Have fun. One thing that makes a difference for me is outdoor fitting. I go to the Golf Fitting Studio at Westfields golf course in Clifton, VA, and like their setup of a building with roll-up doors to let you hit out over a range. I get a better fitting because I swing it better with a real target vs a screen.

Another vote for the G400 LST. They keep dropping in price due the pending arrival of the G410.

Sold the Maxx? Grab the LST head. When I hit both on a Trackman I didn't lose any dispersion with the LST and gained 12 yards because of better spin numbers. Same shaft in both heads, and played with lofts on both. Best for me ended up being the LST in an 8.5 digitally lofted at 9, hasn't left the bag since the beginning of the 2018 season.

I picked up a 9* Rogue SZ with AD TP 6x. Man, it is a bomber, but it is definitely more demanding than the max.

I played that combo most of last season. I really really like that shaft. Hit some really good shots with that club. I am scrounging for a good deal on another to put into contention with whatever driver I buy. I will wait until I know what adapter it will need. I was all about the Epic Flash SZ, but something about the M5 Tour has my attention. Thankfully, I can't actually golf for about 4-5 months, so I have time before I need to make a decision.

I wish you hadn't done that. I would have swapped my Epic SZ with a TP 6x for your G400 Max. ; (

I thought the Epic has a better sound than the Rogue.

I'm very much in the same boat. Love the smaller G400. Saw some minimal gains in distance from the M3 and Rogue that I played this year but the control to move the ball both ways and the fact that I just hit MORE fairways with the Ping has it stuck in the number 1 spot for now. I like the matte black finish better than high gloss also but that's personal preference obviously.

As an aside, I worked as a valet at Westfields Marriott when they opened that course and got to play there for free for a couple years. It was a blast.

OP here. Confession time. I spent 3 rounds with my new Rogue SZ/AD TP combo and ultimately didn't get along with it. It was just a really demanding combo for me - launched low with a lot of dispersion. Time to move on to....

You guessed it - another G400. Actually spent most of an afternoon hitting a bunch of combos. G400 Max with the Tour stiff and G400 LST with Hzrdus 6.5 were the finalists. The LST/Hzrdus consistently carried 10 yards longer, but the Max/Tour combo has such better dispersion that I was pretty much sold.

Before I pulled the trigger, I asked to hit the LST/Tour combo. BOOM!!! Man, it is a good fit. Picked up 12 yards of carry compared to the Max, and with nearly identical dispersion. The Tour shaft seems to be a really good fit for me, and the lower spin properties of the LST head really benefit me. Hopefully this combo will stick for a while.

Ping is really on to something with this technology. IMO, the additional forgiveness the G400 provides is really a game changer.

So, I've been gaming a G400 Max driver for a few months. Hit it really well, so I sold it (it's an illness).

I'm itching to try something new. I'm a decent player - currently scoring in the high 70s, but have been near scratch in

the past. Driver swing speed between 105-110. I'm a low launch/high spin player but I need forgiveness off the tee, so I tend to stay away from the low spin heads with the exception of the Epic SZ, which was a nice fit for me (and a current consideration).

Which drivers should I be looking at for a blend of low spin and forgiveness?

My advice: get the old one back, and also pick up a G400 LST.

find time to play alone where you can hit both off the tee, more than a few days. Figure out which one works better for you. Keep it.

Start the search all over again, but next time, don't sell a driver that works well for you.

take a shot at a G LST head and some shaft experimenting.

edit: fwiw G400 LST and G400 Max couldn't knock it outta my bag.

Same here strangely. I found the G400LST going pretty high and spinning more hence -15 yards or so.

8.5 degree m4

Thank me later

I went from G400 to M4, very good numbers but smoother feel. For some reason the M4 also feels like it can be hammered and still go straight, I think it's between the ears because it has the twist face. I recommend you give it a go before the 2019 stuff arrives, they are very cheap now also.

I'll be the first to admit the G400 Max is forgiving. I've been play one for about 2 months now.

However, the deal killer for me continues to be that "tin can" sound when hit. I'm really considering going back to the G400 LST which has IMO a much better sound and feel.

Go get your G400Max back until the G410Plus is released.

Why would you sell before having a plan for a replacement?

Because I like tinkering with equipment as much as I like playing golf. Like I said, it's an illness.
