Golf Grip equivalent to Tour Velvets (Winn, Lamkin, PURE, Iomic...)

I've decided my next set of grips will be undersized and I really enjoy the feel of Tour Velvets on my wedges. Problem is, golf pride grips undersized tour velvets are only offered in ribbed. After using the "align" MCC grips for a while, I've decided I'll go back to perfectly rounded grips.

 

Question is: What is Iomics, Lamkin, Winn and all the other grips available out there equivalent to Tour Velvet in terms of grip, feel, etc.?

 

I'll be visiting my local store soon to try out grips a little better but, these little b**** hands of mine are not normally accommodated in stores with grip selections so it looks like it will be an online purchase and self install.

A very important factor is the diameter size of the shaft the grip is going to be installed on. The grip diameter size should match that of the shaft (.600” grip on .600” shaft to obtain the published size of grip). .580” grip on a .600” shaft will give you slightly oversized.

 

Since you are looking to replicate the feel of a tour velvet, Winn grips are not an option since they are typically a two piece grip. If I remember correctly, many of the lamkin grips are .580”.

 

I am a fan of Iomic as they are tackier than a tour velvet and also much more durable. They also come in a range of different colours. For undersize, you will need the sticky 1.8 which are round.

Big fan of Pure Pro's. Feel is great, nice and tacky, very durable as well. Install/removal is a breeze if you own an air compressor.

Pures are tight. Lamkin Crossline in my experience lasts significantly longer than tour velvets. I swap velvets every six months but the Lamkins historically have lasted up to a year. Just prefer the GP due to their business operating just down the road in Pinehurst.

If you use Game golf tags stay Away from Pure grips as the tags fall right out.

In my experience, some of the "lesser-name" grips are significantly easier to work with.

 

Going off my experience, Lamkin Crosslines have been much more durable for me, as well as they are easier to stretch down a titch if you are looking to do that. I currently play Crossline Cords, so their workability are a bit less, but they are a tank; I expect them to last a few years with regular care, much more so than the GP cords, which overall I feel have less amount of cord and wear quicker.

 

If you're looking for a "value" grip, like I mentioned above, I've had good success with the Avon Chamois. These are REALLY easy to stretch down if you are looking to thin it out. I don't have a caliper, but just by feel on the club alone you can tell they are definitely a titch thinner than a standard GP or Lamkin, even more so if you stretch them down any length.

 

If you're looking to experiment, those would be a good choice, as they are significantly cheaper than the brand name grips. IMO, if you;re willing to put in the time to maintain the grips (clean/wash/soap/light sanding), you could easily achieve the same life span out of them for sure.

Closest alternative that also comes in undersized is the Lamkin Crossline Black.

I second the Karma undersized. I’ve been rocking their velvet undersized pink grips for 2 years. They’re a steal as well I usually get 13 grips for like $21 on ebay.
