2019 Taylormade Spider X

Looked like a stock model? Or did it not have a black line inside the white?

Looked like the standard single bend copper with the black sight line to me as well. But the TM haters on this site will say the win doesn't count because it wasn't Rory putting with it.

Hmm, I've noticed nothing but positive reactions to this putter? Not a whole lot of hate for it. Second time you've mentioned these "haters." Fishing for an argument?

Lol. Yep.

It's really quite simple. If you'd been reading the thread since inception you'd have seen that multiple members complained that it was worrisome to them that only Rory was using the new putter and that it was concerning that no one else was putting it in play. The inference was the putter wasn't well received because of this. The actual logic was the greens at the beginning of the season weren’t as plush/good, so it wasn’t expected to see more X’s in bags until they got back onto the east coast. Not trying to argue just responding to the heat from before.

People get too defensive over golf equipment. Almost like they take any negative feedback as a personal attack if it's a club they play or like.

Looks like X got a win on LPGA tour as well?

Yep 2 wins for the Spider X this weekend.

I picked up a Copper with single sight line last week and got my grip installed on it yesterday and it feels great. I've always liked the plain top of the Spider Tour so I'm intrigued how I do with a sight line now. I couldn't pass up the better feel and more stable head of the Spider X though. While at the Kingdom in November and now recently I've only rolled the Spider X inside so I'm excited to escape the cold north for a few days next week and try it out on grass.

I picked up a slant neck, copper with white alignment last weekend. No time for indoor putting, just went ahead to play 2 rounds. The roll and feel was good, but I kept pushing right. In the end I can not take it but using my blade putter after 5 holes of the 2nd round. I asked my coach friend to check my putting, and he said the 3/4 offset requires one-ball forward position. After doing that it seems to be better, but will need another round to verify if I was "cured". Just FYI. But the style and quality does look better.

With this impressive spring so far for this putter, I had to go try it at my local shop. I got to roll a few 10 footers indoors.....snowing here in Ohio. I tried the toe flow neck......looked and felt really good. Probably performed well enough to give me a slight bit of buyers remorse as I wait for the mid April ship date for my new Phantom X 5.5....sigh.

Pretty sure DJ uses the spider x. I jus think his alignment aid on top is more of a dark grey then the white. From what I noticed on Tv

Slant neck gets more love but today the single bend model gets bragging rights! And the grip is what should be on these putters!

Which grip is that?

Similar to me.... Ordered mine today but there is a 2 week wait in the UK. Single sight line copper for me moving from the Red tour with a slant neck single sight line

I found the new alignment very helpful to line the puts up but swinging it just distracted my eyes too much.

The biggest improvement for me is the feel and looks It's much improved. I found it difficult to "see" the putter face with the red. Mainly because the front blade part wasn't visible with the design so I found it difficult to visualise squaring the face and saw the putter as one large mass. Much easier with the X as there is some nice gapping in the front section so easier to "see" the stroke.

Also the largest negative I felt with the old spider was when hitting the ball in the sweetspot I would sometimes just get these rocket balls (no pun intended) and the ball would fly off the face with a high pitched thud. The ball would just race on. I know this is me hitting through the ball than stroking it but still. Distance control was troublesome at times.

After having practised with the X I haven't felt that at all even though the putter feels firmer. Only thing I can put that down to is the mass being relocated to the perimeter and the X's centre being much lighter.

Also big fan of copper.

Good win for Mitchell with the Spider X

Yep, good win, but more impressive is the driver he used for this win... 19 years since a Mizuno driver has had a win on tour.

Pretty cool story how the ST-190 ended up in his bag too. He went in just to do some testing for the Mizuno guys and walked out with a new driver.

Agree the Lamkin Deep Etch looks much better. Also I miss the "plain" look of the original Spider that Jason Day made famous. Maybe you can get the plain one once they offer custom.

If you look on IG at the tour bags they have for the practice rounds, they’ve got several with the old Golf Price paddle grip they used to put on the Corsa’s. Apparently just old school and cool no big benefit. I found one on eBay and put it on mine. Love it.

You guys feeling a difference between inserts of the spider tour and the spider x? Rolling new tp5x on the course / at home and rolling I believe warbirds at the store a few times I tried these putters. Difference was very negligible. Could also be the grip muting the feel as well.

Putter look and feel great.

Earlier in the thread I compared the spider x as having feel between the spider tour red and the spider tour black in terms of firmness. Puts a great roll on the ball

And I forgot who mentioned it also I’ll have to look back in the thread for their mention but they said it almost felt like the Orginal White Hot insert. Which I would agree with.

I feel and notice a huge difference. Feel and sound wise. The new x is softer feeling and the sound is more muted. To me it also puts a better top spin on the ball. Tracks much better. I used the odyssey 7s and the red ball, both those putters didn’t feel as good nor did they get the ball rolling or tracking as good as the X so far. Taylormade did a great job with this putter. I use the 2018 tp5 ball and it just feels fantastic off the face.

Special build from the tour van for an unnamed plyer

Since I currently use a backstryke putter, I would love it if they would bring this particular design to retail. The only thing I would change is I would make the white site line blocked off at the bottom and not flare out

Just FYI to anyone that has one "customized" to a certain loft/lie through TM website. I'm pretty sure that they put the grip on first and then bend the putter to spec. The problem is, it cockeyes the grip. Both the MySpider and Spider X came with cockeyed grips (that are nearly identical in terms of how they are "off"). Neither are straight and "close" the putter with the grip's flat side facing to about 8 o'clock at address. A smart builder/friend of mine figured it was because they bend after building.

Not a huge deal as I'll just yank off the grip. But, FYI for y'all.

I would say only 5% of OEM putter grips are installed correctly on stock spec putters. Unless you order from a builder the grip is usually the first thing you should pull and install properly. Most golfers don’t care or even notice. Some it helps their swing flaws if they grab one off the shelf that is open or closed.

Even some pre 2019 Toulons I've tried had crooked grips. Seems like Odyssey QC is handling those.

So, does everyone replace the original SS GTR grip with other grips? I kind of feel it's good for keeping the direction but sometimes distance control was a bit uncertain.

I use the "stock" grip, if you will, but not in the Blue/Copper colorway. I ordered the copper and black for my copper single bend. And I always order with the grip uninstalled, "in the box", so that I can install and align it the way I want. As a retailer that stocks putters, I'll say that all companies have trouble aligning grips. I see it with every stock order I place.
