2019 Tucson Course Conditions

I played Crooked Tree for the first time today. I actually really like the layout out there. If anyone has ever played Aguila, it's basically a mirror image of that track but with longer par 5s. Greens were great, was the first group out this morning and finished in just under 3 hours.

Crooked Tree gets a lot of hate but I don’t mind it too much. Not worth the price sometimes in the winter time (unless they have dropped the prices at all) but can be a decently challenging track especially when there is wind involved. It’s right in the middle of the pack as far as Tucson courses go for me.

Yea it was somewhat expensive ($51) but the greens were awesome and it was only like a 15 minute drive from my place. I had no idea it was out there, I like that part of town.

Crooked Tree's greens have been better the past 2 times I've played there. First few times out there they were really slow.....

Looked smooth and fast, but slow!

Glad you got out early and were able to play fast.....

Played SilverBell today with the men’s club. Course is in really good shape right now and the price seems to have dropped a bit (was only $33 walking). Shot a 77 (+6) and that was with a triple on 17 (2x water ball). Greens weren’t holding too many full iron shots but still played well non the less. And the bunkers actually had some damn good sand in them too! SB earned some respect points today.

Played Saddlebrook Ranch this morning and I was very impressed. Round was only $31 and the conditions were phenomenal. Pretty impressed with the facility out there. Only bad part is that it took me about 40 minutes to get there.

There are 3 Saddlebrooke courses out there....any idea on the others? Preserve and SR Country Club

Unfortunately I haven't been able to play the others yet. I was talking with Fore and he brought up the Preserve a while back. That course has me intrigued. Plan on going out there sometime soon.

Just got done with El Rio and, like Silverbell, was in great shape. Greens were a little firm and furry but still very playable. And for just over $30 walking, a hellofa deal.

Thanks for the feedback everyone. Played Randolph yesterday with my FIL and two boys and the FIL and I are off to AZ National today.

Randolph was in really good shape and played in about 4.20 for a mid morning tee time. There was someone on the course dressed in a TW outfit - Tiger red mock turtleneck and black pants. Bonus points for him.

Not a course, but it sounds like there is strong interest in Top Golf tomorrow from the boys tomorrow.

How did you like AZ National?

I played there today with my dad.

Great shape, still need to work on the bunkers....

> AZ National was a fun track. By fun, I mean, good honest holes that rewarded good shots. If you missed, there were penalties, but not horrific. I liked the risk / reward. A few holes felt the same, uphill par 4 - what you see if what you get, but overall a lot of fun.

Greens were good, but I putted terribly. The sand traps were a joke (hard packed) - luckily I was only in one.

My group played Del Ulrich yesterday and was in good shape. I ended up in a lot of the waste /water collection areas and found it tough to get the ball to spin with my wedges.

Yes, a couple of the par 4’s are similar, with length and elevation changes setting them apart. #10 is a beast up that hill.

They are really working their way around the course with the bunker improvements and have a ways to go.

BTW, I didn’t make any putts during my round, either.

On playing Del Urich: definitely have to avoid the Bermuda rough, especially in the drainage area. No spin from those places for sure.

Where'd you find the $55 rate? I'm looking for a place to play on Tuesday next week, probably mid day.

7 Minutes from my house....I think I''m gonna do it. It's a great track, Decent range, and the member end of the range is open to public use.

Probably get around in summer in 3-3.5 hrs, easy.

Played Pines today. Good shape overall although the greens were fairly slow. Played in just over 3.5 hours but should have been quicker (was paired with 2 older gents that had no concept of pace of play or ready golf). Paid $32 to ride so it was a solid deal, although the driving range is closed for the foreseeable future due to some d-head judge siding with the builders building homes in the area. Guy at the shop said the course is losing about $750-1000 a day because of the lack of range usage. Shame.

Seems to be an overabundance of d-head judges these days. While on vacation I played the Pines years ago when it was called Quarry Pines. Was paired with a man from Korea who was in town to get his daughter situated at the U of A. Only time I ever lost all the golf balls in my bag before I ran out of holes(14th or 15th I think.)Gentleman from Korea was down to 2 when I ran out, then he lost both of them before finishing 17. Seems like I lost most of mine on a par 3 with what seemed to be little room for safety across a canyon/mine pit.

Played The Views on both Wednesday and Sunday last week.

What a beautiful layout! Really enjoyed the strategic challenges presented on a few of the holes.

I'm not a big hitter, so I love a course that lets me hit a variety of clubs from the tee and requires shot placement for best angles. no really hokey holes either.

Course was in pretty good shape, green's were a decent speed, small and a bit challenging to read.

Dry and windy on Wednesday and a little wet on Sunday.

Definitely making it part of my summer rotation while rates are lower.
