Play or watch the pros?

Hey guys, I’ll be heading down to Orlando for spring break. March 11-15. I tried getting the best deal with my SO and compromised for me to golf Thursday. LOL. I also realized the Players Championship now starts that Thursday!

So now my question is should I go watch the pros on Thursday? Or play a round myself?

If I do play a round myself what courses do you all recommend in the Orlando area?

Thanks!

I'm not a big fan of attending The PLAYERS. You park miles away from the event which is packed and there's terrible views everywhere.

But, I will say it is an experience that you may not be able to replicate.

If you want to watch them and then play, I would recommend going to LPGA International in Daytona. Get on the Hills Course and have an enjoyable round.

LPGA International is just off I-95 and before you hit I-4 to get back to Orlando.

If you can't get on there, then I would recommend getting back on I-4 and playing either Victoria Hills in DeLand or Deltona Club in Deltona.

TPC is in Jacksonville, not Orlando. So I'm assuming you'll be driving 1hr45mins to Jax from Orlando to watch TPC? Not worth it IMO.

If you were here a week earlier it would be the API in Orlando.

i've gotten a little burned out of attending events outside of majors. usually logistical nightmares, overpriced concessions and difficult to follow anyone without massive galleries. play all day

Cobra King Tec 19.0 Tour AD DI-105 X

Thanks for help guys.

I’ve been to the Valero Open and also seen the pros play at the US open at Oakmont. So I know it’s a whole different experience.

The only thing that made me consider the players was to possibly see Tiger play, he never comes to Texas!

But I may want to just play then.

Any course recommendations?

Yeah I would have loved to watch the API instead!

I wanna get a round in at Bay Hill but having to stay there in order to play makes it that much more expensive.

I booked an Airbnb for 300 the whole 5 days I’m staying there!

I have to disagree somewhat with the TPC assessment above (from Jax so may be biased). There is a massive parking lot, but it’s easy to get in and out of, and it’s on site. Thursday should allow you to get up close and personal with the players on most holes. If Tiger has a PM time, it should work with your schedule. I typically go on Fridays and you can usually watch him hit the approach to one a hole then go secure a spot against the ropes on the next tee box.

A good rule of thumb is that the further you get from 17, the lighter the crowds. One of my favorite spots is left of the tee shot landing area on 15 fairway. Lots of balls pulled left and good player interaction, listening to their conversations about how to recover and hit the green.

I do second the LPGA recommendation. Hills is a great tough course and far enough away from Jax to not be impacted by the tournament up charge and packed courses.

Also take a look at Victoria Hills, just off I4 before you hit 95. Great gem of a course.

    • Sony Open Pics from January 11, 2022 Part 1
I was able to get out to the Sony Open today to take a few pics.  I guess due to Covid precautions they kept the spectators pretty far from the players.  Also due to camera restrictions they've put in place, I wasn't able to bring the big lens like I normally do. Hopefully they'll ease up on the ropes and I'll be able to get more pics tomorrow!
