I really want to go to Bandon Dunes. But I live in Scotland and none of my buddies can afford to go.

First world problem

I hear you!

It is like someone here wants to go golf in the Isles but one of this regular golf buddies could make the trip.

No guarantees, try this. One of the local public courses make the annual trip to the Bandon each year with their man's club. Not sure if they will add an visitor but I believe the members or the head Pro could add friends and family to the list if there is spots left for each trip.

I know a local public golf course organized annual trip to the Bandon

Pretty sure many other golf clubs also makes their annual trip to the Bandon. just need to match up with their schedule and tag along. They used to allow friends and family before the list id filled up.

If you're interested I could try to find out when and if this is a possibility. PM me.

I really want to go the Scotand. But I live on the West Coast and none of my buddies can afford to go.

We should just meet in Sand Valley!

Let’s do it!!

Solo trip is an option, there's a bunch of us on the boards that have done/continue to do it.

I’ve toyed with the idea of a solo trip. I did a solo trip to the masters in 2016 and it was amazing. It’s looking like the most likely way of me getting there!

I am in the same boat except out of Charleston, SC. Typically my friends do not travel for golf. Was lucky my dad wanted to go to Pebble last year. Doubt I could get him to Bandon. Getting there is not easy as I would have to layover once and then fly into Portland / Seattle and then drive the 5 - 6 hours go Bandon. Hopefully one day I will just bite the bullet!

Been thinking a bit more about this comment. I’m a member at Carnoustie and I live a 20 minute drive from St Andrews. I head over to St. Andrews several times a year just to wander round the shops. I totally take that for granted. There are people on this forum who will never get the opportunity to do that. I should be so much more grateful for what I have.

I still desperately want to go to Bandon though!

I'll be in Scotland the first week of March. We play Carnoustie together, then I'll meet you at Bandon when you come. I was there last Monday and it was glorious. I live 2.5 hours away and it's well worth the drive on occasion.

I'm actually planning on playing Carnoustie sometime between March 5th through the 9th.

Have you booked a tee time yet? How many of your are playing?

You know, even for first world problems, you have me feeling sorry for you there... for a second. Until you dropped this little nugget of information.

Now you garner NO sympathy from me. :)

I had to go Austin to Bandon the last couple years and ya it isn't a lot of fun, but you could "easily" go CHS - PDX if you don't mind the drive, take one day off work over the President's Day long weekend and be able to go 18-36-36-18 (with tee times booked in advance obviously).

It makes for a long travel day on the way back, but it's worth it :)

OP: Bandon is like an American Dundonald, you're not missing anything.

Just me. No tee time. Don't think they would take one from a single. I'll be in St. Andrews from Monday evening March 4th until Friday.

What would be the best time of year to go as a single?

Whenever you can make it. You’re essentially trading price for the chance of better weather in the summer. A travel advantage in summer is the possibility of more direct flights to North Bend, the closest airport. Although coming from Scotland it’s probably gonna be a pain no matter what time of year. Winter months offer significant money savings on greens fees and lodging, at the cost of gambling on weather.

My absolute favorite time to go is just after Thanksgiving (last week of Nov.) - that's when the rates go down and we still "can" have great weather. Same is true in the other shoulder... February and March are a bit more expensive (125 and 150 per round respectively) but you will either have the best weather you can imagine or the worst. Makes it interesting.

We playing Carnoustie together? :)

Edited to add: Had been meaning to send them an inquiry about getting on as a single, just checked their website and evidently the courses flooded over the weekend. Hope there was no major damage :(

I don't know. Their website simply says that they are closed due to flooding. No mention of snow. Perhaps it snowed then rained?

I assume it's nothing major, just a notice to the members, as they emphasize that they will inspect and re-evaluate.

March starts with just over 11 hours of daylight and finishes the month with over 12 and a half hours. Either way, you can get 36 holes. The only thing I've run into is that sometimes because it's a resort the early players aren't terribly quick and by the afternoon it's inevitably pretty slow, so I always try and get the first tee time of the day.

I really want to go to Chick-fil-A every Sunday but such is life

Truett Cathy would rather you go to church.

I don't regularly attend church but you have to admire the conviction. How many millions of dollars of revenue has that company lost on Sundays?

In other news, The Bandon Dunes Golf Resort is open every Sunday and serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

Well he’s dead and I could go for chicken minis on the way past the church to the golf course.

Glove: ML
Tees: 2 3/4
Towel: white
Repair tool: metal
Ball Marker: largest poker chip in the world
Iron headcovers: wait, what?

The feedback system is annoying

I grew up in greater Atlanta, and as I recall, his big issue was actually having the employees come in on Sunday. As a kid, they were only in shopping malls, anytime I went to the mall I would start craving Chic Fil A. It was always a rude awakening to remember it was Sunday.

There is rumor that they are bringing a store, here, to southern Oregon. If they get it finished before Ralph comes to visit, I'll introduce him. Wow, back on topic.
