Jpx 919 forged vs p790

Just got fitted into p790 with kbs c taper 130 x stiff, low spinning head because of weak lofts and low spin low launch shaft. in the 7 iron, hit both 790 and jpx 921 forged. jpx was too weak lofted for my spin. most complain about p790 being too low spin. not true. I had between 6500-6700 rpm spin. depends on your swing. even with low spin low launch shaft, i averaged 190 carry, 120 feet peak height on trackman, and had consistent 52-55* decent angle. consistently striking -3.5 to -4 AOA, club path between 2-3* in to out, face to path near and around 0 to -1. swing speed 96-99, dynamic loft 23*, for reference p790 7 iron is 30.5*. i suspect that if your swing is closer to 90mph, the weaker lofted jpx would probably be more suited to you. i really wanted to love the new p770, but the lofts were too weak for my spin. there was the option to strengthen the lofts but the fitter was afraid of an uncomfortable turf interaction. so p790 it is. if you have decent golf skill, nobodys swing is really better or worse, its just different.

the distance on the p790's was just too uncontrollable for me. Bought a couple irons to test on my launch monitor. Idk what it was but what people say about it occasionally just jumping off the face is true.

I normally hit my 7i between 180-190 depending on the loft. With the p790's I was hitting it 200 and occasionally idk if it was just a dead center strike or what but it would just pop off for like 210-215

i wonder if you have a low spin rate. I hit over 100 balls in my fitting session and didn’t have one single flyer. If I swung my normal power, which is about 95%, it was consistently landing within a 3 yard window. The only time it went further is when I swung harder, and that was shown in the club head speed being higher. Perhaps because of my delivery causing the high spin, it keeps the p790’s reigned in.

I hit the P790s long, and they always felt the same when I tried them. I wasn't looking for distance gains, I was looking for feel gains so didn't think it was the club I wanted, despite the very springy face and long distance hits, I wanted to know when I was mis hitting faster.

The 919 tours/forged set I tried had the feel (good hits felt great, mishits had a bit of a ringer up the shaft). I wanted to love them, but they didn't love me back.

I ended up with a set of MP-18 MMCs with a 3 and 4 hi-fli (kind of like the p790 actually, which is good for long irons). I love this set, absolutely love em. They love me right back, given my score has been dropping ever since I picked em up!

I own the P790s, which works well due to being a higher spin player, however they feel dull and sound almost clicky.  I’m testing the JPX 921 Forged irons tomorrow, they are supposed to be stronger in loft and lower spinning than the 919s. If they feel/sound better than P790s I might have to pull the trigger on a new set.
