The brand of adhesion promoter I’ve been using. Switched it up to see if I notice a difference.

I guess that would be important when applying so much paint over the full surface.  You’ve been doing this for awhile now, no?  Seen any long term problems with flaking, creasing, etc?  I’m thinking of doing a full upper paint like you’ve done here, but don’t want it to only last 6 mos. etc

Thanks again for your info in this thread!

Have you done any Jordan 1 low Gs yet?

Though much is taken much abides;
We are not now that strength which in old days
Moved earth and heaven, that which we are, we are;
One equal temper of heroic hearts,
Made weak by time and fate, but strong in will
To strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield.
- Lord Tennyson

I’ve got about 6-7 pairs that I’m currently working on that will be done in the next few weeks.

To me these look better than the "UNC" I've seen posted. Those look fantastic.

OK. Howd you get the Jumpman logo looking so clean on those Augusta Js? I'm terrified to try to paint that thing. I'm afraid it will bleed and look horrible if I try.

@lefthack appreciate it! 🙏 I used the recent retro Jordan 4 basketball release for the colorway Idea.

@blink3665 - pictures hides the flaws - normally I don’t  have any issues with those small details because I use a very expensive tool!  A toothpick (ha! 🙂 !!) These were a mock up so I was trying a few different and new techniques.  The best way to avoid the paint bleeding is to not use hardly any 2-soft on the jumpman.   So normally on this scenario I’d paint the yellow like normal (Angelus + GAC-900). Then the green would be just the Angelus paint.  That will make it much easier to keep from bleeding.  And I always use a toothpick on stuff like this.  Makes it so much easier than even a fine detailed brush.

AHA! Expensive tool sounds like a key. I have a 10/0 and 3/0 brush but I was still scared. I had completed the shoe and just didnt wanna ruin it on the very last step, so I left it. LOL.

@an808caucASIAN Appreciate it! These turned out great! And for the first time in a while, they’re for my own collection! 😂

@sharkiesj Thank you!! 🙏🙏

Mission, how do you color the inside fabric? Any staining on skin or socks from the process?

@Frankensteins Monster Use Angelus paint and GAC-900 in a 1:1 ratio.  It usually takes 3 coats to fully saturate  the sock liner -  make sure you heat set it with a heat gun after each coat.  It should be dry to the touch and no paint should run off when completed.  The heat set it’s what will keep the sock liner soft.

as far as rubbing off on socks and such - I’ve had some darker colors rub off onto my socks on occasion but in very small areas.  And it only happened 1-2 times.  The key is to make sure you’re using only as much paint as need for full coverage.

A little something I’m working on.

NICE!! Did you stitch on the Nike tongue tag too? I’m waiting for a few pairs of all whites to get in and then I’m going to work on them. I’m thinking about doing one like the upcoming Georgetown highs and potentially a colorway like the low Travis Scott reverse mochas, but I won’t be able to do the reverse swoosh..  we’ll see 🙂

Love your work!

@tte720

I use adhesion promoter on everything - but if you’re painting anything  plastic / patent leather -  you’ll need to scuff up and sand the areas + adhesion promoter and finally you’ll have to mix 2- hard with your paints in a 1:1 ratio.  And honestly  if you’re painting any piece of the shoe that is plastic / patent leather - that bends or flexes it’s going to crack.  I’ve turned down a lot of jobs on the Air Max 1 and jordan  11s because the paint just won’t last.

In your pic -  I’d paint the tongue tag and the lace loop area since those won’t bend or flex much at all, but the material around the shoe won’t hold up well.

For example. He warned me that TPs would crack due to the material. I prepped, sanded, used an adhesion promoter... and this happened. That being said, I still love them and wear them a ton.
