How To Guide - Custom Golf Shoes -AJ1 low “Master’s” Pg. 7

Recommended Posts

Funny you asked this I’m ordering a pair of the all whites to customize soon- Just moved my family into a new house and getting an office set up where I can customize more and more.

With the tour premier’s Swoosh - this is what I would do.

- Clean and Prep the Swoosh with Acetone (this step is just to clean up any old paint)

- Using a very high count Sand paper, gently sand the swoosh giving a bit of a surface for the paint to adhere to.

- Optional - you can spray an adhesive to the swoosh right before painting to help adhere to the surface better ( make sure you paint your first coat of paint shortly after spraying the adhesive.

-Prepping the Paint - It’s Vital that you mix the paint with “2-hard” in a 50/50 ratio when painting anything that’s plastic. This will allow it to harden to the plastic, making it more durable and a longer lasting custom.

- Paint a Thin coat with the color of your choice ( if you are using a brighter color I’d paint 1-2 coats of white to make the color pop). Then 2-3 more coats of the color you want to use. Always use thin coats...

-Heat set it with a heat gun but just be careful not to let it get too hot and melt the plastic.

- let it set for a good 3-4 hours +

- Last step is to put a clear coat finisher on the swoosh. Then, you’re all set.

Hopefully this helps

I’ve been using 3M masking tape with no issues - the red tape they make is the best but it’s expensive so on a non super detailed custom the regular masking tape works great.

No issues with residue - just make sure it’s not on the shoes for days on ends.

What are you plans? I have my white/white sitting here and was thinking about doing something with them. I just dont have the guts. Painting the contrast swoosh on the AM1s was 1 thing. This would be a whole different beast to tackle.

So after some research I found out the Dye on the soles won’t last so decided not to customize the XIs.. did pick up a few pairs of Different Nike’s to customize for myself and a few ppl have asked me to customize a pair, so I’ll be working on 3/4 protects over the next few weeks..

this is my current project that Im working on for a personal pair.

will post pics and I progress on them.

Pretty much you can expect any customs to have some wear and tear over time but prep is the key. If the shoe is prepped correctly it can last a long time. But I’ve noticed that even on shoes that were prepped the correct way, sometimes you get chips or fades no matter what..

I’ve worn this pair a ton of times and it’s still looks good. (the gold is the custom paint)

I’ve always had an interest in customizing shoes, but it wasn’t until about a year and a half ago I had the idea to start doing them more often and start doing them to my brand new golf shoes. Last year when I posted some Roshe Tours I worked on , a few fellow WRXers had me work on some projects for them. The past 6 months I’ve had a lot more ppl reach out to me and I’ve done more and more projects and I’ve taught myself more and more techniques.

With that said, one of my best friends wanted me to work on a custom for his sons baseball cleats. Here is the current project I’m working on. These are about half way done.
