This is so true.

I have this set an Bridgestone J15 MBs with KBS Tour Shaft for more than 2 years and couldn't find anything better than this even with some player distance clubs or more forgive iron set.

During this Pandemic, I had try at least 5,6 different sets of iron Honma 747, Ping i200, Bridgestone JGR HF2,... and still come back to the J15MB

Even with a weak Loft PW 47*, I still can get a good distance out of this, usually 138-142 yards or so. I think because of the stronger loft from the modern iron, I just can not bring the ball high enough on those long iron. But not for the J15MB. My 5 iron can easily carry 190 or so.

Contrary to the beliefs of some people, thanks to the influence of CAD on golf club design, there are easier to hit blades today. I learned the game prior to CAD using older Mizuno 29 blades. Even back then there were harder and easier blades, example MP-14's were more difficult than MP-29's, due to design. Harder meant shorter heal to toe OA length, and the sweet spot was closer to the heal, close to and higher on the face, lower trajectory and head-weighting varied.

In 2000 I had MacGregor custom built LW-2i set of MB's, which are still awesome and easier than most; especially easier to hit than my 03 Titleist 670MBs or my 2020 620MB's. IME since 2k the most challenging MB's were Titleist 670MB's and my new 620MB's. There were others but I didn't test them all.

Though "easier" to hit is subjective based on skill, look for lighter weight club heads with sweet spot centered between heal and toe, more offset, sweet spot slightly low and back from the face with blunt leading edges and cambered soles. KZG, Taylor Made, Callaway and Cobra each has them. They look like blades but inside are designed more like CB's. Forget about P7TW with Tiger specs. lol

Titleist is NOT known for easy to hit blades but 718MB's leaned that way. My new 620MB's are not in the easy category, neither are 620CB's but that depends. Though I have never touched a Malty club, given his reputation, I suspect his version of a blade is going to be easier than others. Most important thing to consider if blades are attractive, make sure you put in the practice time, and don't like the bias naysayers influence your choice. They tend to blow their understanding or experience out of proportion.

Well, since this thread has been defibrillated, the Jbeam T801 l's have been beyond the most forgiving blade I have ever played. My biggest gripe with them is their reverse offset, but since the lofts are so jacked, there's room to adjust the offset and lofts to a more desireable setting.

these are what I am currently playing..............paid $30 for them.

They took my JPX900 forged out of the bag.

Now i want to replace them with a more modern blade...but am unsure where to go.   But i just can't go back to the JPX, they look huge after playing the 845m's

I bought a set of these a few years ago when I wanted to start playing blades.  I switched over from my game improvement irons with no issues.  Great looking clubs.  Since then I've picked up a few dozen other sets of blades from thrift stores, garage sales, Craigslist etc...  and have found that a lot of them are more playable than you would think.  But these are real gems if you can find a set.

Look around and see if you can find a set of these in left handed.  I'd like to see how your theory holds up. 😉

Like all blades from that era, it’s the sole and the lead edge that make them more difficult to hit. The blade is fine as most are, it’s the turf interaction and tiny margin for error with the ground that make them tougher than a modern blade. Iron soles and lead edges have evolved due to course conditioning and agronomy advancement. Cuts are shorter, firmer and the modern soles perform incredibly. 20-30 years ago fairways were today’s first cut of rough. Hogans famous 1 iron…look at that photo. That was a US Open. The fairway is an inch long.

My favorite blades which I played  were Golden Ram Tour Grind (Watson grind model), Tour Grind FX, MP32 and now MP20.  At 70 now I don't see myself going to some ugly missive  iron heads. I would possibly go to P7MCs which have a desired look and blade feel. Nothing feels better than striping it of the MB's sweet spot, nothing.

Looks like ZERO give on that leading edge, but I sweep more than dig, so if anything I might hit those thin.

I agree that what might be tough for some to hit might be glorious for others. Otherwise we would all play baby blades and nobody would care. 🤣

Plus, as far as I can tell they were designed with no sweet spot.  Not one that I've ever been able to find.  A real feet of engineering if you think about it.  😄

But to your point lefthack, I agree.  Blades aren't the unhittable steel posts that people make them out to be.  Most people would probably score about the same once they acclimate to a nice set of blades.  There are a lot of good options out there.

Cool to see the Resurrection GSR.  Impressive that a $30 find sent the JPX's a packing. Well done. I had purchased some Ping BP's last fall and they had a similar effect, I sold off a ton of gear and have not purchased any other irons since. That's huge for me.

Tonight I was reading a review on the PXG Gen 4 woods and went to the PXG website to have a look at prices. Also had a look at the irons. Doesn't hurt to look right??😀 The 0211 ST Blades look dang good  and seem very similar to the BP's. PXG is basically giving the ST's away price wise compared to the BP's. Might be worth a look...

The most recent blades that shocked the heck out of me with how easy they are to hit are the PXG 0211ST.  Phenomenally easy to hit, great turf interaction and feel.  A little strong lofted vs “traditional” blade (+2*) but great and inexpensive.

Before that, MP5, MP18 (very powerful club), MP20 (but not my favorite).
