Just when I thought Rahm was putting on the crown of “King hothead”, Sergio goes and yanks it off his head!! LOLOLOLOL!!! ; )

 

Rahm is a drama queen. He acts as all his approach should land within 10 feet and all his putt should go in.

Behavior like this doesn't come from simply having a frustrating round.. He has some rooted issues that must be causing him some major stress in his life and he's likely at the breaking point...

That said, a man of his age should have the maturity and mental fortitude to avoid such blowups in public. It really is a pathetic scene.

 

I'll play amateur psychologist with you and completely agree. This is very strange when combined with the green damage.

Sergio hacking up the bunker is pretty clear indication there's trouble in Paradise. The excuse he's a fiery Spaniard needs to be put to rest, he has anger management issues.

Good! If it was the weak US tour he would had got away with it. Unruly behaviour is not accepted or the norm on the ET unlike the US tour.

 

The PGA Tour would not tolerate any pro damaging multiple greens in a tournament.

Think we can all say that we are surprised and disappointed with Sergio's latest meltdown (maybe some of us aren't so surprised). It's so easy to judge and criticize his destructive behavior, but I think all of us have had some experience with losing our temper or saying the wrong thing in the heat of the moment...some of us have this happen more often than others.

 

I've been very critical of his antics in the past and I get fairly annoyed that these flare ups continue to occur with Sergio, but ultimately...I hope he finds a way to calm the demons that haunt him from time to time.

I completely agree. It's never the golf courses fault. If you want to have a tantrum, take it out on yourself and your own equipment, not the course. Kick your shoe around and give everyone a good chuckle, throw a club in a lake, heck I even used to know a guy who would take a whack at the bottom of his shoe with his wedge when he flubbed a chip. It was all giggles until the day his aim wasn't so good and he broke two of his toes.

Is this what's being reported now? Where did you see this? Regarding the foot drags, is it being suggested he did that on purpose?

 

I'm confused as I all I've seen is the Tweet by Shakelford.... 4 huge swings in the bunker and dragging the club across the bottom of the trap. The huge swings are ridiculous tantrum activity. The scraping the club alone maybe not that bad.

 

Edited to add: Evidently after reading a few more articles, he wasn't even punished for the tantrum in the bunker. But, he was intentionally damaging the greens with his shoes, all the players behind him noticed, and he admitted to it and apologized? Meanwhile receiving appearance money?

That comment is very different from his outbursts on the course, what he did this weekend was inexcusable, that wasn't just someone a little angry, he had completely lost control when he hacked up the sand trap. He needs to be suspended, not just so he can seek help but it will also send a message to Rahm to get control over that fiery Spainard mentality he seems to be showcasing more and more.

Moreover, I think it's improper for anyone to point fingers. We've all done dumb stuff in our lives.

 

Sure we have and I'm sure most of us regret at least some of those things. That doesn't mean dick!sh behavior in others shouldn't be called out or challenged though.

 

People acting as apologists for others' moronic behavior is why it's now increasingly common and somehow acceptable. At the end of the day, if you act like a c%nt (a la Sergio) you should expect there to be repercussions.

I still think he would have been a much happier dude if he won that 1999 PGA. He seemed like a pretty happy kid around that time. There would have been no major monkey on his back for so many years and he likely would have won more majors as a result. But it is still pretty surprising to see his latest outburst. I thought the wife had really helped calm him down in recent years.

It seems that Spanish pro golfers get a bit of a pass from broadcasters with the "fiery Spaniard" comment but I agree every golfer should be held accountable for their actions. I think it's great when golfers are intense and show a desire to win, but that doesn't mean I condone temper tantrums and destructive behavior.

 

There are too many people that don't understand pro's aren't role models and their poor behaviors shouldn't be emulated so it's on the Tours to enforce rules to ensure the pro's act in the best interest of the sport. My 21 year old nephew was having a rough round and after a slice into the water he lost it, threw his driver and a tee. I walked over to him, calmly told him to pick them up and that if he ever did that again with me, he'd never be invited back to my club. He apologized but cited how the pro's do it and didn't see why it was such an issue with me. I said, 1) you're not good enough to get that mad, 2) we're not playing for $1M and 3) I decide who I want to play golf with and that behavior imo is unacceptable no matter who does it.

So what? The greens could have been like a ploughed potato field. The point is they're the same for everyone and what you don't do is go damaging 5 of them and making them even worse for the people playing behind you.

 

Also, commenting about the state of the greens is rather different to slamming your putter into them.
