That's interesting. Basically not coming back to the U.S. after this week except to pickup her trophies at the year-end awards (the race for second in CME / Rolex is actually quite tight). I thought the Indy tournament was reasonably well received, although it is a pain with the scheduling especially if you don't want to play the TX one. I had thought some of the Asian players could go home for about a month around the Solheim Cup but forgot they can play back there as well.

Jin Young Ko played KLPGA the week after Women's British Open; she shot -3 and was T13.

Best KLPGA events have purses of less than $1,300,000 and winners earn less than 23 Rolex ranking points. It's a far cry from $4.5 million and 100 ranking points for Women's British Open.

I can't imagine losing either event, as they've been staples for some time now. There's currently a four week gap between the HSBC in late February and the Bank of Hope in Late March. I'd expect the Blue Bay to be held the week after the HSBC.

___________

In an interview, Jin Young basically stated that she looked forward to seeing everyone in Korea and it gave the impression that her North American season is done ... except for the CME.

A most unfortunate development for Sandra. It goes a long way towards explaining the serious dip in her form ... at least for this season.

Wishing her a successful recovery and hopefully return to playing full time.

Nelly Korda is leading a Korean major; Hanwha Classic, after 3 rounds.

By the way, Hanwha is one of Nelly's sponsors.

Want to play on the LPGA? Get comfortable asking for money

Beth Ann Nichols has a penchant to dramatize; but she makes the point.

American big companies are out of reach for LPGA wannabes; even potential superstars Nelly Korda and Yealimi Noh signed first sponsor contracts with Korean companies.

Where are the Lotte, Hanwha, Hana, KB Financials, Descente, Lucky Goldstar and Hite of this country?

In Korea lady golfers or anyone else for that matter are not competing with NFL, MLB, NBA or NASCAR for the almighty sponsorship dollar.

We're the richest country on earth; we choose not to invest in women's professional golf.

Therefore, don't ask why our professional women golfers aren't as good as Korean's!

I've never asked that question and we have already concluded on this forum why women's golf is higher on the totem pole in Korea than the U.S.

The las 2 regular events in the US appear to be heading for severely watered down fields. The Japan Women's Open, a major on the JLPGA and the new Hana Bank event on the KLPGA are the same week as the LPGA event in Dallas. Both have comparable pursues to LPGA events. No point in playing Indy or Dallas for a lot of players especially if they're sponsored by either hosting organzation. It'll probably be a last minute money grab for people trying to move up the money list. One of the only top Koreans to play may be Sung-Hyun as she is defending at both events. I still think players like Lexi, Brooke, and Lizette will likely play but the fields will likely be filled out with Symetra tour players and those on the bottom of the money list.

Patty had a great 2018 collegiate season and T5 at US Women's Open; but her season soured when she crushed at Q-Series.

She redeemed herself this year at Symetra Tour by winning her third title in eight starts; a total domination.

Will she exceed Kristen Gillman or Jennifer Kupcho in her LPGA career; we'll have to wait and see.

Yeah, having a bad week at the Q-series will haunt you for a little while, well if you're expect to make it that is.

What is the money list cut-off to play the Asian events? 60th or 62nd? In Gee is currently 63rd - a pain to play in Indy and then travel to Korea for the following week's competition. I guess this makes more sense now why Jin Young Ko said her North American season is basically over now.

The lesser fields could really swing some things around the Top 80 and Top 100 cutoffs though. Kind of interesting from that perspective for some fan favorites that aren't necessarily the best players. I.e. I wonder if HYP will play the two U.S. events trying to keep card or would rather play in Korea?

There isn't any conflicts for In Gee in Korea; her sponsor's event isn't until October 17-20 when American schedule is done.

Her main conflict is Japan Women's Open on October 3-6; she won it in 2015 and has played there every year since.

The cutoff is severe at Korean event; top 55 to be safe. In Gee may get a sponsor invite, then her earnings won't be official and she won't earn any Race to CME Global points.

In Gee is on the edge of Race to CME Group Tour Championship cutoff of top 60.

From my perspective, In Gee should skip Japan and play both Indiana and Texas. She may miss both cuts, but it's the right thing to do.

I doubt HYP, No. 104 on official money, has any serious Korean sponsorship. She won't skip either Indiana or Texas unless she decides to retire.

Can the Korean LPGA players play in KLPGA events at their own choice or do they need sponsor invites? Seems like there are decent events in Korea starting 3 October (Hana Financial) through the BMW LPGA event in Busan (24 October)? Basically wondering if the Shanghai field (same week as KB Financial in Incheon) will see people absent or if this will only be a couple/few of the Koreans in the that make the Top 60.

I'm also guessing Ryu's North American season is done. She won the Japan Women's Open last year so I assume she will play again and rather not make the trip from Indy.

LPGA players most likely need an invite to play KLPGA event; but it's only a formality.

The strength of field in China has never been as strong as Korea; it won't be different this year.

In Gee is contractually obligated to play KB Financial; otherwise I'd advise her to skip it and play China.

Won't she get a 2020 LPGA card if she finishes in top 10 on Symetra Tour money list?

Yes, Patty is guaranteed to get her LPGA card with a priority inside top 100 to begin year 2020.
