Give me feedback on my new golf travel website?

Hi all –

 

Portland-based long time lurker on this forum here.

 

This past fall I started planning a golf trip to Scotland and, well, it was a ton of work. All the info you need is out there, but its spread across dozens (or hundreds!) of sites. It’s hard to get a sense of the golf course options – which are the ones you actually really want to play vs which are the ones on every tourist’s itinerary cause they’re a Big Name for whatever reason. The are some useful websites, but most are just frustrating with their unrealized potential (looking at you, Golf Advisor).

 

Anyways, it inspired me to create my own site. It’s taken a few months to do a lot of research and build something but it’s finally at a place where I’m comfortable with sharing it.

Right now I’ve covered 32 courses across Scotland, Ireland and the Pacific Northwest.

 

It’s still small – there are a lot more courses I plan to cover and a lot more travel advice I want to write about for the blog. There are also a million little things I need to fix or refine, but I’d love your honest feedback on what I have thus far.

 

Tell me what you like and what you don’t like. What do you want to see more of? Less of? What else would make this better. Does anything not make sense? Is anything broken or misspelled (there undoubtedly is).

First thing I would do is reach out to GolfWRX about this thread/being a sponsor. I started a thread a while back about a YouTube channel I'm starting this year, and after 1 great response, it was deleted. When I get it started I will be reaching out to the mods to see best way to post about it here, if possible. Ymmv.

Edit: if you want to grow quickly/get investors, find an avenue for automated/user input. Sites like this fail all the time cause the owner is manually doing everything alone. Make a way for other users, or volunteers, to upload info.

Hey I like the look of your site a lot, and it seems instinctive enough to use. One quick thing, it would be nice if typical rates for the course were mentioned somewhere. I am in the process of planning my own trip to Sandwich, England, and having all that information in one location would be helpful, especially if you could click and drag/create course lists that would automatically calculate ballpark greens fees. I dont want to know that Castle Stuart is $$$ and Troon is $$$$, I want to know that Royal St. George’s, Cinque Ports and Princes will cost me £150, £110, £50 per round for the month of march. It’s tedious to bounce around all the various websites, so some kind of “greens fee calculator” would be nice, even if it provided ballparks.

 

Thats my thought, but I love the site! I’ll look deeper when I have more time.

I like it, good use of links and info gathering. I look forward to the itineraries and additional courses. In the spirit of golfwrx trip reports, maybe add your own opinions/experiences? Unless you're planning on that for the blog.
