Most forgiving players iron made within the past 5 years?

I jumped on here to put my vote in for S55 but I see that answer was given early and often.

True players cavity back my vote goes to i20 or iE1. I've found the i series irons after the E1 to have good feel but spin a little too much for my tastes. i20's were (are) fantastic if you can tolerate the offset in the long irons.

i20's are special. I'm only looking to replace mine for shaft and "I just want new irons" reasons...

The P790's have to be way up near the top. Then maybe the Ping i25's IMO

Being a retailer of most major brands, and having the luxury of hitting/trying most of them on course, I'd have to say the most forgiving in this category is the Bridgestone TourB CBs. And in my opinion it's not even close. I have a set that I fall back on when I just want to just go out and have fun and hit good iron shots/score well and not fuss around with my swing or equipment. I probably should just play them all the time, but I like to experiment and tinker.

Forgive my ignorance, I’m not really up to date on Bridgestone stuff, and tried to do some searches but came up with a couple different options and clubs - are these the ones you’re referring to? The X-CB on the hosel threw me off.

that's last year's model, there is a 2019 model of that same irons. Both I believe will provide the forgiveness mentioned

I'm sorry. Yes, X-CBs. Actually hit with them in the rain today. Every single shot feels like butter. Going in the bag in the morning. Lol.

If I’m not mistaken the AP2 is the most played iron across all professional tours. There’s gotta be a reason.

I’m loving the 714 Ap2s I just bought. I hit them today and they feel fantastic and perform even better. These will remain in the bag until the 720s come out . I’m starting to see why so many play the Ap2s. Great iron!

What do you think of 714 Ap2s?

They're nice/fine, but I just ditched mine for TM P790s. Soooo much more forgiving.

I liked the 790s. Hitting a 215 yard 7 iron is a cool feeling hahaha

is it such a cool feeling if it's the same loft as a 6 iron in some other sets? does having a 45-degree PW (wedge setup at 45 / 49 / 43 / 57 / 61 with 4-deg gaps ("normal")) work that well? why not just label it with lofts?

i doubt that you really hit the 30.5 degree club (my 6 iron, the p790 7 iron) significantly further in the p790s than in other sets

if you want your irons to be lofted lower (sorry i mean "go further") just buy lower numbered irons! have the set 2-P or 2-9 rather than 4-GW.

You’re ignoring the fact that the length of shafts will be different between these two sets when matching lofts. I don’t know about you, but I can hit my 7i “easier” then I can my 5i.

Wilson V6 tour always gets great reviews and for the price are hard to beat.

Loved the shape and feel, but hated how shiny they were. Glare City and V6 is the Mayor......

Srixon 7 series or PING I series. Srixon feeling much better. They are hard to beat.

I need to try the Srixons outside. My local doesn't push them very hard they're all Mizuno guys. They say they spin low and aren't that long despite the strong lofts. I only hit the 765 very quickly and my swing was very off - not a fair shot IMO.

Haven't actually taken them to the course yet as it is winter here in Omaha and we are currently under lots of snow that doesn't seem to want to end (global warming my a&@) but I got a set of Callaway CF16 Apex irons that perform amazing on a sim and give me great numbers....my gamers are a set I will never part with, Ping i5's...I couldn't pass up the Cally's....5-GW with Recoils for 299...guy at the golf store quoted me the trade in price off value guide but said he would sell them for that since he made the mistake...thanks I'll take them..

Agree with the low spin comment. Disagree with the distance comment. The low spin and strong lofts are what makes them long. No doubt Mizuno spin more for me.

If you’re going to go with Srixon you have to make sure you spin them enough for stopping power, or launch them high enough so the descent angle is steep enough

The Ping I210's I bought today seemed every bit as forgiving as the 919F and 919 HM.

I read where the i210s don't have the distance of the Mizunos you mention, not that a few yards is the end all. I will take forgiveness and dispersion over a few extra yards any day.Thoughts.

The 210's are weaker lofts, quite a bit weaker than the HM. The distance isn't a problem and they spin just right for me.

Pick a brand

In each of the 5 or so categories of irons, all the brands are very very similar in these categories

First thing is pick category of iron best suited for you....next thing is pick brand you like best or iron that looks the best to you....if you need bounce find one with higher than avg bounce or vice versa....

Telling you what I play or like isnt gonna do much for you

And yeah every thread ends up being a "what's in my bag " kinda answer.....

Yea you're talking about a 2 degree loft difference in i210 vs. the 919F and 3 degrees in the Hot Metal starting at the 8 iron on up. They'll definitely be longer but I've always like the dispersion and distance control of the Ping i series irons.

biased opinion here, but the MP-25s are very forgiving, and you can get them for a steal on ebay, 2ndswing, etc. JPX900 forged should also be considered.

Agreed. The 25s have great ball speed, can hit it anywhere around the sweet spot, thin sole, feels like a blade with turf interaction. Purists hate them because they are a JPX MP iron.
