Over the past few weeks there are times when going to the GolfWRX 'home' page - the home page is randomly replaced after one of two seconds with an advertisement for either McAfee or Norton antivirus - sometimes it is McAfee and sometimes it is Norton. I cannot purposely duplicate it to make it happen. What's also strange is that both of these advertisements make deceitful statements - saying that my antivirus (I don't have either brand of antivirus on my PC) needs to be 'renewed' and the page provides a button to click on (which I haven't clicked on).

I do not have anything on my PC that is associated with McAfee or Norton. No other websites (besides GolfWRX) produces these underhanded web pages (that replaces the GolfWRX home page) a second or so after bringing up the GolfWRX home page every so often.

Is GolfWRX aware of any McAfee or Norton advertisements/links associated with the GolfWRX website?

There are two things you can learn by stopping your backswing at the top and checking the position of your hands: how many hands you have, and which one is wearing the glove.

Yep - same here! Underhanded and deceitful advertising.

@Nail_It Got the same one this morning from same URL.  I was going to copy and post the URL until I realized there was an awful lot of info contained in the string, including the name of my ISP!  Which made me decide to not post it.

Yeah, I don't blame you for not wanting to post the URL string.

I guess it's hard for the GolfWRX folks to figure out what is producing the underhanded and deceitful advertising...

Please use the link to report ads.

You can screenshot and link here but it will not get to the ad publisher without reporting them. They are specific to user and device browsing and not global.

if you post here, we will pass them along but it is delayed instead of reporting directly.

The value of the "Quote" button.

You didn't quote GxGolfer so he isn't notified of your post unless he's "following" the topic/forum.

Seems to me that link to the bad ads is from a PREVIOUS board and is no longer functioning, at least not as originally designed.

As for the other, and I have NO idea if this will work, you might try locating your browser's cookies and see if there is one for "device.com".

Then delete any cookies from that site and/or any cookies from WRX.

And THEN then look into your browser and see if there's a setting to block ALL "3rd party cookies". Then DO it.

And/or Google "block 3rd party and redirect cookies in XXXXX" where XXXXX is your browser's name (or "Android" or "iOS" if you're on your phone).

Hope this helps

You summed up pretty much what I'm thinking.

Link from old site? They are not aware of current link. That tells me something.

As for the cookies, I deleted over 320 cookies just from this site. This is by FAR the most number of cookies I've seen in a site.

Either they (the forum software) allow gazillion number of 3rd party cookies or something is missing to allow that many number of tracking cookies.

Yep, GolfWRX loads everyone's computer down with hundreds of cookies. Totally way too many to be reasonable.

The link you provided does not work.

I continue to get the 'bad ads'.

Maybe troubleshooting could start with getting rid of the hundreds of cookies GolfWRX puts on everyone's computer - using the process of elimination. I'm guessing that at least one of those hundreds of cookies is connected with these 'bad ads' members (and probably non-members) are getting.
