Reshafting Cleveland Byron Nelson 68.3 Irons

Recommended Posts

I tried to search this topic but came up empty.

Has anyone reshafted Cleveland Byron Nelson 68.3 irons?

Looks to me like just epoxy, but I’ve not been able to get the heads to budge after a good amount of torch heat. I regularly pull iron heads and have run across stubborn heads in the past but nothing like this. Anything special needed to pull these iron heads or just more elbow grease?

Also, anyone know if these take .370 or .355?

Thanks!

Given the number of views and lack of responses, perhaps this question is better posed on the club tech forum? If so, would a Mod please move this question to that forum? Thanks!

Teevons --

Thank you for your reply. I see no evidence that they have been pinned. I'll give it another go this evening.

Great looking clubs. I haven't seen a set of them that's ever been pinned. Are you using a heat gun or an actual torch? Odd that they wont come off. I wonder if a previous owner did something diabolical like Ping does with putters and jammed a ball bearing in that shaft at some point. Never heard of anyone doing that but who knows?

Speaking of diabolical, if the previous owner didn't quite know what they're doing and used JB Weld, no heat source would get them apart.

Thanks all for your replies. I was initially trying to preserve the ferrules but since abandoning that was able to remove the heads with a good bit of torch heat.

This week, the PGA Tour is at TPC San Antonio on the Oaks Course for the Valero Texas Open. GolfWRX was on-site Tuesday to catch a glimpse into the bags of some of the world’s top golfers.

The field of 144 is getting ready to battle starting Thursday for the $7.7 million purse, with $1.386 million going to the winner. The tournament is also the last event where players can qualify for The Masters, just like Canadian Corey Conners did last year.
