Twin Cities South Metro Private Clubs

Recommended Posts

Hi All - I live in Eagan and work in downtown Minneapolis. I'm looking for a private club that is within 10 or 15 minutes from home, and is on the way (or kind of on the way) to and from work. The goal is really to shift most of my "golf time" into the weekday mornings/afternoons in order to open up time on weekends for other obligations. The only club that seems to fit the bill is Mendakota (as good as the golf scene is in the TC, the south/southeast metro really isn't that great IMO). I've never heard anything super positive about Mendakota, but also nothing really negative either - anybody have any opinions/insights?

Yea that’s unfortunate about somerset but depending on age of op, maybe they have a good associate program? i live on the opposite side of town so ive never checked

I’ve heard good things about mn valley, that and mendakota are probably his best bet.

Noticed op that your user name is sju guy, guessing you graduated from there, what year? im a sju alumn

Where in Minnesota? I managed the Elk River CC for 25 years. I left there in 2007 and I’m now in Wisconsin at Turtleback.

As an Assistant, I worked at Minnetonka. CC (now closed) Bunker Hills, and Somerset. After I left ERCC I was at Medina CC and Greenhaven. I’ve been in Wisconsin for 7 years. I’m old. :-)

We have a home in independence but we live in the upper peninsula of michingan now. I’m back in mn somewhat regularly and have been a member at windsong for 6 or so years, probably will be forever hah.

I’ll have to come play turtle back when im driving through! never have played there. You have a solid spread of courses under your belt! We should play a round sometime, you’re certainly welcome to play at windsong if you’re ever in the area!

Awesome! I graduated in 07, if you ever want to play a round, let me know!

Love Windsong. Is Matt still the Pro? Great guy, we worked at Medina together. You are welcome at Turtleback anytime.

I just joined Midland Hills last fall and really like it. It may be a little out of your way, but it is super easy to get to from downtown (I live downtown). From the research I did last year it was the most reasonable. They have a nice spring trial. For $1,500 you can experience the club from opening until 6/30/19. You get to use all of the amenities (club storage, locker, range, etc). If you choose to become a full member the $1,500 is applied to the initiation fee. I did the fall trial and joined last fall.

Yessir! Matt is still there, he's one of the best. I look forward to playing Turtleback!

I was going to suggest Midland but figured it would be too far for him. My dad is doing that trial this season, looking forward to playing it as an alternative

I work downtown in live in the south metro. I'm going to give Midland a go this spring with the trial.

I'm curious to know what the renovation plan looks like for the next couple of years and what the actual plans look like. If they restore it as close as they can to the original plans, that is going to be one hell of a fun course to play.

Nobody is real sure yet. The architect who is working on the master plan gave the course his proposal this winter. There is a town hall meeting with the members in May to discuss and decide what we want to do. We have the money, so there will be no assessments. It's not clear (to me at least) how much, if any of the course will be closed during the renovations (if the membership agrees to it).
