Talking Cult Clubs - What are your all time Favourites ???

I forgot about Sonartec. I have a 17* MD with a UST Irod shaft in my garage as well as the clubs I listed previously.

Agree have an old sonartec 2 iron md equivalent I regripped it an put it back in the bag this winter, just brutal into the wind I can get it to go about 10 feet in the air with a dead ball flight like a football kicked with your toes. High tariff club if your hungover though .....!

Not exactly sure what cult clubs are but in my area back in the day the Cleveland Launcher 460 sure was popular, seemed like all the cool kids had one. It was one of my all time favorite clubs, along with the matching 3 wood.

Yes, just replaced mine last year, still know several low cappers using one of those or both.

My buddy and I still use the Launcher Comp 460 driver. I have a new one stashed away for future use. Wish I still had the matching 19° 5 wood.

My favorite irons by far were the Mizuno MP-57s. Loved how soft they felt and could still get some distance if I miss hit them. I just recently replaced them with the MP 18 MMC, but kept my MP-57s.... just in case. I never got the TM V-Steel but loved the shape and look, but I had the original Callaway Steelhead 3 wood. I put a Pro-Force 65 (the original purple and gold) shaft in it and never looked back.

Hello GolfWRX Community,

Ryan Barath here.

I wanted to open a discussion based off my most recent Podcast: https://soundcloud.c...ubs-of-all-time

The topic of cult clubs started a greater conversation about what are the best clubs of all time for YOU, including shaft. I know there is probably at least one club you either wish you still had for those fun casual rounds or you still bring out from time to time.

To get this party started, for me it would have to be my - 8.5 983E with a prolite Stiff along with Steelhead 3 fw woods 3&5 with M10 shafts.

When I was a kid I couldn't really afford to change much and I wasn't really close to many golf shops so I just stuck with what I had and they all worked really well.

Looking forward to hearing from everyone.

A 8.5* 983E is actually my main driver. lol With stiff YS Design.

I used 845s for like 10 years (I personally think they weren't that good, but they are one of the best selling irons of all time).

Original Acushnet Bulls Eye putters.

8802 Wilson (any model)

SS03 Sonartec woods are absolute BOMBERS.

.588 Cleveland wedges.

My favorite irons of all time and my main irons (and I believe the best irons ever forged): V-Foil C1025 MacGregors

Cleveland Launcher DTS 9*
Exotics CB 13*
Ping i3 17*

Callaway Steelhead 3 20*

Nickent 3DX 23*26*29*
MacGregor VIP V-Foil 1025 C - 7-PW
Ping Eye2 51*57.5*

Like you had mentioned on your podcast the TM R510TP with the speeder 757 shaft is probably my all time favorite. It was the first “true” golf geek club that I was able to get my hands on and game.

Another honorable mention from that same time period are the TM rac TP combo set. I had them at the same time I had the 510TP and I wasn’t even close to good enough to play them, but damn they looked good in my bag haha

Been using a Launcher Comp 460 since 2006. Same with my buddy.

I stopped using mine a couple years ago. Mine had a UST V2 shaft in it. By far my favorite driver of all time, but I hit the 913 d2 driver better.

The 905R is an absolute legend. When you compare a driver to it's contemporaries, it will probably never see a more outstanding driver and it wouldn't even kill me to throw it back in the bag.

MP-33's - no explanation required

TA SilverScott 845's - it was these or PING's in everybody's bags for a while. They were so good.

I still have my Ping Eye 2 L wedge in the bag which I purchased used in 1994. Even though the lower grooves are worn to almost nothing it still spins the ball like crazy.

I have several Adams idea XTD super hybrids with the 17 and 21 degrees models getting the most play.. It took me a few years to get comfortable hitting hybrids but now I swear by them.

First off to the OP--- Great thread. Been reading through here this morning and it does bring back a lot of memories. Ok my favorites and those who know me will know

Macgregor--- Basically any blade but those dammed split soles but mainly for me VIPs and FC-4000s

Hogan Precisions , Grinds and of course 99 Apex

Wedges Cleveland 588s back when Cleveland was really Cleveland

Vokey old 252 series

Putters--- Any 8802 style out of all the putters I own I do not actually have any real Wilson 8802s--- Gotta go with the old Anser and Zing 1 and 2 also

Fairways-- Gotta go with V-Steels I have at least one of each-- Gotta mention my old Steelhead that I carried for 13 seasons until I got too damn old to swing that Pro Force 65 stiff

Drivers--- That is a little tricky for me--- When you guys were swinging some of the Titleist 905s I was still swinging Persimmon. Played persimmon until 02---- As far as metal drivers I had not really found the love until I started swinging the Homna G1-X in my signature. I do like my Titleist 915 D-2. I told my running partner Bear last week that the Homan was creeping up to the status of my very beloved Blonde Persimmon Power Bilt I gamed for 8 years ( until a fatal crack)

Got to give a honorable mention to MP-33s I played a set of those I got used for a couple of seasons until I wore the short irons out

Driver--- Callaway Big Bertha Alpha--- Speeder 565 R flex

3W-- Callaway RAZR-- Speeder 565 R Flex

7W --- TM V Steel UST Pro Force 65 R flex

9W--- TM V Steel Stock V Steel R flex shaft

Irons 4 thru PW 1985 Macgregor VIP Hogan Apex #2 shafts

SW -- Cleveland 588 56* TT Sensicore S-400

LW Vokey SM5 L Grind 58* 04 bounce Stock Vokey Shaft

Putter -- Cleveland Designed By 8802 style

Not only are the clubs in this post considered 'Cult Clubs', but these particular selections have enabled me re-think and re-configure my iron set so that it is 'much more versatile', while at the same time allowing me to add several more clubs to my bag without exceeding the 14-club legal limit.

LESSON LEARNED: AN 'UNCONVENTIONAL BAG SETUP' CAN ADD VERSATILITY AND PERHAPS ENABLE YOU TO SCORE BETTER! DON'T BE AFRAID TO EXPERIMENT WITH 'UNIQUE' SETUPS.

My TM SLDR irons (5-8) when combined with (2) UDI's - the 16* (#1) and the 20* (#3) enabled me to achieve consistent (4*) loft gaps throughout my iron set! Love the performance and versatility of that!

Furthermore, because I now have only (6) irons total with this combo set, there is more room in the bag for other clubs, (additional fairways, hybrids, or wedges), beyond those that I would normally carry if I still playing a more conventional iron set comprised of 8-irons like I used to.

All the above SLDR irons and UDI's have KBS C-Taper Lite 110 shafts)

This is the perfect combo iron set up for me!...

SLDR Iron Lofts

Note that I only play ONLY the 5-8 SLDR irons from the SLDR chart above - (24*, 28* 32* and 36*)

UDI's - Ultimate Driving Irons - I play a 16* (#1) and a 20* (#3)

NOTE: Because my 2011 Cleveland Niblick PW (shown below) as just 42* of loft, it easily does 'double duty' as my 9-Iron too! (That also helps save bag space for something else).

At 42*, this 'super versatile' Niblick PW is also a great 9-iron!

As someone else said, Ping ISI woods are my favorite of all time. Original Steelheads are up there. (I think Tim Clark still has one in his bag).

I'd also add Seemore putters to the list.

And Cameron's Red X (modeled after the Seemores) to the list.
