Awesome...thanks for posting these, definitely helps!

Yeah, the black shows a lot more of the cosmetic damage than satin chrome does for sure. Not as bad as I thought it would be though.

How long have you owned them now and how does the 639 CB wear compare to other black clubs you've had? I saw you had black Vokey wedges before, and you probably had other black irons?

They weren't the black... The Vokeys were grey and didn't really show any chatter, just some wear on the face.

I bought the 5 iron around this time last year, but hurt my back so didn't have a ton of rounds with it. I'm not against the black as evidenced by my Sub70 wedge order. I do think some of the wear simply comes from them being made of a softer metal... which makes them feel nicer... I'm not sure the 699s would wear as quickly, but I don't know!

Makes sense. Ok great, thanks very much! Will definitely consider the 699 Pros or 639 CBs in black still then.

Going to see them in person and hit them next week, so we'll see how it goes and how they compare to my '17 P770's.

I really really wanna get the new 649 mb raw. Those look gorgeous.

I still miss my 630 MBs and wish I never sold them. Cant say my other current iron sets were really worth the upgrade other than being shiny and new

I play quite a bit, about once a week,  My 639MB/CB combo looks about that, Ill try to get updated photos after todays tournament 😃 for further edification.

Its worn, but nothing detrimental or surprising.  Bag chatter does in fact accelerate the wear look so I have now thrown on head covers....OMG!!! He did... LOL  But other than that.. for me the black saves me more times than not with the sun... The refection off my vokeys from the sun kills me,  Nothing with the Sub70 blacks 😃

Awesome, thanks...look forward to seeing how they look!

How would you compare your 639 CB/MB combos to the TM TP MC's? My previous irons before the '17 P770's were actually a combo set of '14 TP MC (3-7) / TP MB (8-PW).

I want to replace my 4&5 MCs with the Sub 639CBs.  Just didnt have the funds or the opportunity at the time.

I will say the MC's have done me no wrong up to this point.  BUT the black flowing set of actual matching 639CB as one reason and secondly The 639 CB's are ULTRA forgiving.... when I compare my MB 6&7iron vs the 639CB 6&7iron its VERY evident there is a large increase in forgiveness.

I would "assume" the same as the MC's are borderline, MB's  So the True CB would just give me that extra oomph.  I mostly use the 4 iron off short tee boxes or super tight fairways.  So the 639CBs are going to be prime.... Just waiting for an excuse to order the 4&5 iron or just another "Back up set" since shipping to me is a little further than most LOL!

I ordered this on Monday and picked up at Sub 70 today. It came with the usual extras. This makes my third hat. I only time to hit some balls into the net in the basement. I can’t wait to get it outside.

That's awesome, how do you like your 739 irons? They're out of stock on Sub 70's website, so they must be popular

I like them very much. Very easy club to hit. The distance is equal to anything else I was looking at the time I bought them. I need something more forgiving since I have some physical issues which make it hard to keep my swing consistent. Jason did a great job finding a setup that works really well for me. I didn’t break 90 more than a few times a year before I had the 739s. Last year I had whole lot more rounds in the 80s than ever before.

From left to right PW -6iron,  If you notice the 8iron has the greatest amount of wearing, compared to the rest.  But still black,  the sole you can still see the nicks and softness of the clubs.

Still working great, just a dumb operator LOL!

LOVE them and going to call Sub70 now to see if they are willing to ship 2 clubs LOL

*updated*  Just finished talking to Mark,  Got my 2 639CBs,  4 & 5 iron PX 6.0, 24* & 27*...... Perfect!!!!!

AWESOME, thanks...this helps a lot!

Actually love how those are wearing!

Just got done with a fitting today, and going to see and swing some Sub 70 clubs tomorrow, so we’ll see how it goes!

Can anyone compare which Sub 70 irons would be most similar to the Srixon ZX5’s? Probably the 639 CB’s?

Got fitted for the ZX5’s w/ Project X LS shafts...they felt amazing, but don’t know if I’ve got that kind of $$$ to drop right now.

Yeah, I'd say they are most similar to the 639 CB... not identical.

In my mind, the main difference would be the tungsten in the toe of the club. I game Adams CMBs, and absolutely love the balance of them... It's one of the few things I think actually makes a decent difference in club manufacturing... though I was all set to buy a set of the 639s until I got laid off last year.

I haven't had enough time to fully compare my Sub70 5 vs my Adams 6 (and it likely isn't super fair, as they have different shafts)... but I'll be on a simulator tomorrow and can put some swings in with both and see if I have any useful data from it.

I have the 639cb. I wouldn’t say that the 4 and 5i are overly forgiving. Thinking of migrating away from my 639cb set and go with a Srixon zx5/7 combo set

Honestly, they are as forgiving as a single metal cavity back can be... which isn't overly forgiving. The 699 are more forgiving, but have more tech in them and play with weight a little more...

I do really enjoy a set of irons with tungsten in the toe, though! I'm hopefully going to be able to put my CMBs up against some other sets on a simulator this year and see how they compare... I've got an hour booked out the next three days. (My club decided to not charge by the hour and instead offered a flat fee... Cue evil laugh)

thanks for sharing. I agree with that 100% and you put it very well about the forgiveness. They really are a great set , I just need a little more forgiveness in the 4/5, heck maybe even 6i as I don’t have a boatload of time to practice. I supposed I could also just buy the 699s instead of a brand new set of Srixon now that I think about it. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed every minute of the 639cb, and may even hang onto them.

Yeah, I was hoping the 649s would be a little more forgiving, but that doesn't seem to be the case... I'd love something between the 639 and the 699...

I'm really interested in the Cobra King Techs, as I think they look good and I tend to get along with Cobra stuff... I don't have the budget for a new set of irons this year, but I'm pretty happy with my CMBs. (You can also hunt for a used set of CMBs, they are incredible)

This feedback really helps!

Yeah, I was leaning toward the 699 Pros before my fitting today because of the added forgiveness and distance, but when I hit the P790 and Apex DCB (which are most comparable to 699 & 699 Pro from what I understand), I didn’t really care for them. Too bulky, heavy, and not enough feel.

The ZX5’s were perfect!!

That being said, the 699 and 699 Pro are different clubs, and could end up being a better fit than the P790 and Apex DCB though.

I’ll be hitting the 699, 699 Pro, and 639 CB tomorrow, so we’ll see how it goes.

Could end up just keeping my P770’s, splurge for the ZX5’s, or do a combo set w/ a 699 U Pro 4 Driving Iron, 699 Pro 5 & 6 Iron, and 7-PW 639 CB...

TBD tomorrow. I’m excited to see them in person and see how they compare to the other options!

No experience with the Srixon,  But This is my take,

Played 714 AP2's PW-3iron,  super forgiving for players GI.

Also played Nike 03 forged blades PW-3iron, because I thought I could, Failed.

Moved to Cobra Amp Cell Pro PW-6iron and 4 & 5 TM MC's

Now Sub 70 CB in the 7 & 6 iron,

When I compare the CBs (6 & 7 iron)  to the Nike Blades, Cobra Blades  and the AP2,

the CB are WAY more forgiving than the MB/blades (obvious, but just making the statement)

Now this is potentially a bias, but oddly I seem to react and find better success with the CB over the AP2 (Players GI)  I seem to have more forgiveness but better flight control with the CBs.

The CB's can go both high and low,  the AP2 were always pretty high.  The Spin on the AP2 was more as well, the CB I can knock spin off or add spin when I need to to work it one way (when I am actually successful LOL)

Dont ask me but there is black magic in those irons hence the reason now I order the 4&5 639cb to replace the TM and round the set out.

Awesome... great to know!

The other possibility if I like the 639 CB’s could be to do those in 5-PW and a 699 Pro U 4 Driving Iron.

I called Sub 70 and they actually told me that the Project X LS shaft that I was fitted for and absolutely loved didn’t fit with their irons, so that’s another thing I have to keep in mind.

The closest shaft to that is the Project X 6.0 that I already have in my P770’s, so neither of those things adds check marks in Sub 70’s column unfortunately.
