Sub 70 Clubs

I've played forged CBs for years - I can't remember the last time I didn't play that type of club. However - for some reason I just really struggle and the 4 and 5 iron spot. It's not due to lack of speed (driver SS 120+) - I think it's more to do with just lack of playing time and consistency. For that reason, I'm almost positive I'm going the 699 Pro route. I might not enjoy the switch away from forged CB feel, but it's critical to me to have consistency and help in those long irons (especially on attackable par 5's). Going to rock what I have til the end of my tournament season then make the switch. Very good feedback here so I'm excited to give it a run!

Has anyone hit the 939X hybrid vs the 949X hybrid? Is the face really hotter in the 949 and are the soles that much different? Debating whether i should upgrade to the 949 or not?

They just realeased the 799s

Thanks, for the heads up. They look different, almost a cross between a Tour Edge SGI type of iron and Cleveland HB Turbo.

New 799 SGI's are on the site. Might not be what you want but I can see this being what some people NEED. I see a hole in the line between the 699 pro and the 639CB still. Something like a JPX921 Tour or a T100. I don't need a 185 yard 7 iron no matter what the PGA Tour says...

Looking forward to feedback on these.

I think I'm going to shelve the 54* and 58* LB JB wedges I got. I love the look, the feel (very soft), spin and just about everything. The soles just don't agree with my steeper descent and absolutely sopping wet courses right now. It's all the indian and not the arrow but I can't make em work right now. A better angle of attack would surely fix it, but alas.

All 3 built to 36.75", with Modus 120 S, and midsize GP MCC+4.

Sub70 cherry picked the lightest heads to help keep SW down. Saved at least 5-6g on the 52 and 56, and about 3g on the 60.

I guess my only complaint was that I was hitting too many greens with the 52 that I didn't have any chance to try out the 56 or 60 lol!

Great looking clubs.  Might have to pull the trigger on one myself.  Please update as to how you like the 56 and 60 if possible.

Played 9 with my son yesterday at a little exec course to try out the wedges. It's a tiny course with 6 of 9 holes under 100 yards, and one that's a bit longer but played to 100 yesterday because the tees were up.

Since the 52 will be my primary pitching club, I was able to use it off the tee* on those 7 holes and on approach on one of the two par 4's.

I was throwing darts! I went 20 yards long on the first hole, as it was the first time I'd ever struck a ball with that club, but after that it seemed like I was pin-high all round.

They look and feel great. I was worried the swing weight would be too high at 36.75" with a Modus 120, but the 52 just felt perfect and effortless swinging, and as a tool it just seemed to disappear in my hands and the ball just went where I wanted.

Big time thanks to the fine folks at Sub70!

What are your thoughts on the 286 vs the JB?  Shape? Leading edge? sole etc?  Is there much difference in the shape at address?  It's been hard for me to tell from pics I've seen.

Too early to tell. The JB hasn't touched turf yet lol... Just looking down at address I didn't see much difference, but we'll see once I get some more rounds in them.

I can definitely see the difference in the grind between the two. But obviously I can't say much about how differently it plays. I'm probably not the right guy to do that anyway, as my new bag of clubs is pretty much the first new set I've had in 20 years lol...

My 699 Pros arrived today (ordered 6/20). 4-AW with KBS C-Taper S, though I’m coming from a traditionally lofted iron set so once I get distances dialed in the AW might get replaced with a 286. Can’t wait to get these out on the course!

Those look beautiful. But dang . I ordered mine last Monday. Was hoping to have them early August

Great first outing!  After going modus in my irons set I attempted to go Modus 120 in my wedges and so glad that I did.  Very nice feel on the wedge on full shots and especially 1/2 and 3/4.

Yeah, it's odd. I just replaced nearly everything in my bag this year after 20 years. My previous set was +1.5" in length, and most of my irons were swing weight of E0 (wedges heavier) with NS 950 shafts... I suspect the heads must have been super heavy.

So I was a little worried that I might cause problems jumping up to the Modus 120, because the wedge heads are heavier than the single length iron heads. I thought maybe I should drop some shaft weight for the wedges due to the head weight. But once I got fit for my SL irons and they felt so good, I decided to use them in the wedges too. I had all three wedges built to 36.75" to keep the swing weight a little lower than the irons at 37.5", but honestly these wedges don't feel heavy at all.

VERY happy with these!

So my black TAIIIs showed up today.  It's a little bittersweet.  The look awesome, but coming out of the box, several had finish issues.  I'm not sure in what step, but the center topline on half of them had some minor finish... failure/wear/loss???  They were packaged well- tight shrink wrap on the heads, then individually wrapped in bubble wrap.  Robust box.  So banging around in the box due to rough handling by UPS shouldn't have been an issue.  Looking closer (pics included), it almost looks like post assembly, the shrink wrapped clubs may have been suspended by hanging from the head?  I am not super picky about bag chatter & stuff like that, but I think I'm going to reach back out to them considering they are brand new.  I would hope the finish would stand up a little better than that; especially on such an odd and visually prominent place at address.  Either way, they are gorgeous and tomorrow I'll find out how they feel.

My son finally got his clubs in. 6-Aw 699 pro, and a raw 58 wedge. 4 weeks order to door. For those that don't know, Sub70 is connected to Diamond Tour Golf. I've used them for years to build my son's clubs. I asked to have the same ferrules put on, but they forgot, I guess 😐

Midsize Winn's, KBS shafts, and 3° flat

This is the first time in almost 15 years I've purchased and not built clubs, and I guess I can say on face value, it was a good experience.

Decided to come back to the Sub70 fam yesterday.  Last summer I had a sweet set of 699 Pro Black irons but the shaft was wrong for me so I sold them.  Have recently started to have some elbow pain and have really missed the look/feel/performance of these irons.  They were so easy to hit and I shot 2 of my personal best rounds with them in the bag.  Decided to go with Steelfibers to help with some of the elbow pain.  Now just waiting on these beauties to arrive.  Can't wait to put them back into the bag.

I too had a stint with them. Well twice. My friend let me have his 699 with a KBS90 s Shaft . I hit them really well . Had to give them back. I went to get fit with some other irons and was told to go with KBS 120s and 3 up. I took those specs thinking it would be no problem but I never hit them like did my friends. No I have pings and while okay my distance are about a club and half below the 99s. Did the demos and compared side by side. My ping 7 goes goes about 156 which the 699 8 goes about 160ish
