Thanks very much. Nice details.

i’ve played the JPX 900 Forged. How do the TAiii’s compare in playability? Would you say if you can play one you can play the other? I was looking at the 639CBs, which do look good, but then I was drawn to the TAiii, which I think looks even better. Tommy called them sexy and I would agree.

They definitely are a little less forgiving than the JPX 900s, and they feel more "solid".  Great feedback, I was able to move the ball like I wanted.  I generated more spin.  I demo'd the 639MB/CB combo, but only hit them on the range.  I'm very pleased with the TAIIIs over the combo set.  I had reservations with the long irons, but the sole weighting on the 4/5 give me that little extra confidence.  I was hitting absolute bullets with a little draw and a ton of run out.  I was able to also hit higher baby fades that were checking pretty quickly.  They play basically as advertised.

RE: playability and compatibility... my index is 6.8.  My inconsistencies are off the tee, so my index isn't quite indicative of my improved iron and wedge play.  If there are struggles in consistency with irons, the TAIIIs may not be the best choice in the Sub 70 lineup, but they will force you to become a better ball striker out of necessity.  Otherwise a cavity or hollow body iron may be the best bet, especially in comparisons to the JPX Forged.

I haven't hit the 649s enough personally to make an incredibly concrete statement...but I definitely hit the TAIII quite a bit higher than the 649.  That being said, when I was testing them I was playing like a dope and just did not feel confident enough with the 649s.  The TAIII was notably more forgiving for my mediocre ball striking skills.  I'll try and talk to our fitting guys today though and see what they typically see as far as launch deviation between the two models.  Maybe someone else here has some experience with both models as well.  Thanks!

Any feedback from the fitters on this? Also, got any info on the TA3 wedges? From the pic I saw it appeared to be a slightly bigger wedge. Dare I say, high toeish?  I’m looking to replace my high toe lob wedge, and wondering if I should wait for the TA3’s.

Anyone here bought from the Sub 70 europe site? I'm kind of tempted but the site is very ropey looking. Doesn't fill me with confidence.

Swede here.

The EU-page looks kinda weird and nothing like the US-page...

I ordered my clubs (699 pro black) from the US-page and now I'd like to add a set AW @50°. Would prefer to do it by the EU-page but can't find it on there. Reason why is that customs add about 20% when importing from the states. Not to mention the shipping cost is almost as much as the club itself 🤣

Someone help me pick out a 54* wedge, JB vs 286.  This is my current set up:

50*-699 Pro-Full shots only

54* - PING Glide 2.0 SS (Standard Sole) 12* bounce - I used it for full shots & 3/4  shots mainly and some pitch and runs when I have lots of green.  I would say square face shots to every so slightly open face shots.

58*- JB Wedge 12 * bounce.  -my greenside club 99% time or shots under 80 yards.

OK so the 54* PING performs pretty well to be honest but the feel is not good and has a very hollow sound at impact it is quite odd not especially comparing to the buttery soft JB wedge.  So that is why I am looking to change out the 54* to a sub 70 model.

The PING does seem more compact then the JB wedge.  The JB 54* has 10* bounce, the 286 54* has 12* bounce.  Has anyone put up comparison pictures yet?   Any suggestions based on how I use the 54* from above?

Taylormade M6, 9.0* head set -1.5*, Nippon Regio B+ shaft, 65 stiff at 45.5"
Cobra FLY Z+ 3 wood, orange, aldila tour blue stiff, 14.5*
Sub 70 939x, 3H(18*), Proforce V2 85 stiff
Sub 70 939x, 4H(21*), Proforce V2 85 stiff
Sub 70 699 Pros, 5-AW, Modus 120 stiff
PING glide 2.0, 54*

Taylormade MG3, 58* HB
Scotty Select Newport, 73* lie, 1* loft, 34" (Testing Taylormade Bandon 1)
Bridgestone Tour BX (Alternate ball VICE PRO)

If you use it for full shots, I’d go with the 286 as I think it’ll be more forgiving. If you’re a super ball striker, either of them will do. It just depends on what you prefer in terms of turf interaction. For full shots, I tend to lean towards higher bounce. It’ll also help you out of the bunkers.

Hope that helps!

Just out of curiosity (nothing bad as I already own a sub70 club and love it), I'm wondering what was sub70's rationale to go with parallel tip iron shafts. It seems that taper tips are much preferred among golfers though I don't have any data to back up. Is there any distinctive advantage to go with parallel iron shafts? To many sub70 irons users here, do you feel any difference, assuming your old irons were mostly taper tip? Is descending weight noticeable? After a bit disappointed with new titleist t200 irons, my desire for 699 pro is growing.

The advantage to using parallel tip shafts is for inventory purposes; you don't need to stock as many shafts as with constant weight shafts. As long as the iron heads are weighted properly, there is no difference with parallel shafts.

Thank you for your answer. If so, does putting nippon shafts (parallel AND constant weighted shafts) in properly weighted parallel iron heads make the set ascending? Perhaps, I'm just fixated on such a minor thing....

There are iron sets weighted for taper shafts, and sets weighted for parallels shafts. If you put constant weight shafts in parallel heads, then the short irons will tend to have a  heavier s.w.

You can also use taper tip shafts in .370 heads, using a small shim at the bottom. A .355 taper shaft is actually .370 1" from the tip.

Most Nippon shafts have discrete lengths in both their .355 or .370 shafts. So depending on the shaft you want they should all weigh the same.  No need to worry.

The parallel shaft thing is definitely an inventory choice as noted above. We can build sets to any reasonable SW by individually weighing heads, using tip weights, etc.  We are planning on offering some iron models in both parallel and taper tip heads in the future...hopefully in early 2022 from what I've heard.  That will allow us to offer some other shaft options that only come in taper tip.

Any idea which models?  I'm seriously thinking of grabbing a second set of 649's for future use, but I'd prefer taper tips.  Not alot of options out there that match up to the 649 specs, and my feelings would be hurt if they were discontinued.  I'd wait until next year though if there was a taper tip option.

I figured I'd post my initial feedback on the 002 Mid-Mallet. Love the feel. You can definitely tell when you miss the center on the putts, which is incredibly useful feedback. Head is pretty heavy which is also good. More toe hang than I was expecting in the head design. Probably around 45 degrees, but someone from Sub70 can confirm or correct that.

One thing I don't like is the grip. I picked the Traxion 1.0, which feels too small to help take my hands out of the putt. If a larger version, like a 2.0 or 3.0, was available I would have taken that.

How’s the feel? Is it soft or can you really feel the ball come off the face?

I am between the 001 Blade, PXG Bayonet, or Ping 2021 Anser off the rack at the local Golf Galaxy. If I could beat my wife home from work I’d just get all three and try them out for a month but unfortunately with her still working from home that’s still impossible.

I think the feel is great. Definitely not soft, but that's a good thing in my opinion. My current gamer is a Scotty Phantom X6. You can hit the ball anywhere on that face and it'll feel the same. The 002 isn't like that. As an example, I when hitting some downhill putts, if I hit the heel, the ball comes off dead as a doornail. That's not necessarily a bad thing mind you. It's a lot about preference.

My main thing I would recommend to Sub70 when it comes to the putters is to list toe hang in the specs. If I had known that, I would have ordered a different putter than the 002.

Ok, that’s what I am looking for in a blade putter. Thanks.

Sub70 actually lists the toe hang (35*) for the 001 blade under Details.

Placed an order this week for a 699 Pro Black 2-iron, 639 CB Raw in 5-PW, and two JB raw wedges (52* and 58*).  So jacked to put these in the bag.

The waiting is the hardest part - placed my order 8/12, and know it's 2-3 week lead-time, but I still check regularly for any status change 😀
