I have advocated a change in swing coaches long before, but the problem is that JS looks at Cam like a surrogate father type figure since he grew up with him as a coach during his formidable years..Unlike TW whom I saw growing up under the tutelage of John Andrisini in SoCal but gotta give credit to Earl and even TW himself , they realized that JA could only take him so far and that led to going to Butch and as they say the rest is history

He was lucky to win the 2017 open,hitting the ball about 200 miles right of the fairway and only getting a one shot penalty and a drop on the practice range and decent lie.

Should have been declared out of bounds and 3rd shot from the tee box.

Hasnt been anywhere decent since,so 3 years of playing like an amateur.

Driving and ball striking is woeful.

Balaoney. You guys forget the double bogey Jordan made to give DJ a chance. (16?) at chambers. Or the couple short putts he missed on the back 9 to lose the open that Zach Johnson won. Or that he came back from the wide right against kuchar to win the open. Nearly holing a 5 iron on the par 3 and holing putt after putt to bury Matt. It’s not luck. Wasn’t luck that per the rules he could drop on the driving range. That’s not luck. It’s the rules of golf. And the length of time it takes for the officials ( not Jordan ) to decide that isn’t his fault either.

And if DJ had made the eagle putt on 18 he would have won a major because Spieth 3-putted 17. I'm guessing that you wouldn't still be feeling bad for Spieth missing that playoff.

I think that a lot of us feel that on any other Open Championship venue the driving range would have been OB. I am guessing that the next time they play at Royal Birkdale, the driving range will be OB.

Still doesn't answer the question of why he should have been declared out of bounds since he didn't hit his ball on the driving range.

I’ve played a right even mix of courses who’s range is OB and those who’s range is not OB.

 

but I think that’s beside the point. He took an unplayable. He would have dropped on bare ground if the range is OB. He didn’t hit it on the range. And he hit the shot from the range Fat ! So we can guess all we want. But if he drops in front of the range fence and hits. He’s just as likely to flush that shot on the green is he is to hit it fat and come up short as he did. The range being in play did not effect that outcome in any absolute way.

a little bit of self doubt goes a long way. Speith is such a feel player as well. He has to build up momentum with top 10 finishes and work his way back to the top. He is not a player who gets ignited. He will find his way back. He has a lot of talent as seen by his tournaments that he as won. He just needs to find that place again.

True but he still is missing it in two directions and I liked watching him when he was winning. I think getting at pins on the longer par fours has hurt him.
