thats funny....i used to love Spieth and i still do like him, but he has changed a LOT since his winning days.....during the last tourney when Rory was playing with Spieth, you could tell Rory wanted to kill him for all his antics, his complaining and how long it took Spieth to hit every single shot.....

Spieth should jump on the opportunity to put Bones on his bag. Grellar needs to go, constant misclubbing and wrong course management choices. Before you chime in that Spieth overrules everything, I don't know, that may well be the case, but still there has got to be a caddy out there that can convince Spieth to stop taking these low% plays over and over. Greallar has no clout over him and seems like an enabler.

I don't think it's Grellar at all. I've said it before and will repeat it. He has too much going on in his head swing wise. Nothing looks smooth and free. It looks like he has 100 thoughts in his head and Michael can't truly help with that.

Agreed, his misses are and have been for some horrific. He can’t seem to go 9 holes without hitting one of the planet. On the holes that he is not doing that, there have been plenty of positive signs but for every three or four birdies, it seems that there is a disaster hole thrown in for good measure.

I think Grellar is an issue as well.....the little celebrity status he has attained has gone to his head IMO and with Spieth acting like he was the biggest thing since sliced bread, well i think the golf gods have a way of humbling everyone

Both Jordan and Rickie have the same problem and that is the dreaded 2 way miss. Every time either of them went off the rails, it was a hook or pull left that caused the downfall. Hogan set the guideline for fixing the problem and if they stop chasing the distance unicorn and follow his example, they just may succeed in becoming players we all wish they could be. I pick on both, but I'm actually a fan of both and would love to see both racking up wins. But unless they change what their doing, wins if any will be just a dream.............As always, lightning can always strike on any given tournament, but waiting for it is like waiting for a lotto win...........

It's not his caddie, it's his unorthodox swing.

There was much conversation regarding how long he would last on tour with that swing.

His putter has saved him most of his career, along with the wedge game.

If Grellar's course (mis)management advice means taking standard 170 yd approaches and telling him "block this thing 30 yds right into the water hazard" then yeah I'd say replace him. It's not Spieth f'ing up high risk choices, he's f'ing up what should be stock shots, randomly, out of nowhere.

Completely agree, but he needs a reset and some person to initiate the reset sequence. I think Grellar is part of the past that Spieth must let go of in order to move on.

The reset that Jordan needs is to go back to his original swing and stop chasing distance. With his current playing condition, he could have the best caddie on the face of the earth, but the caddie is not the one hitting the shots and the one that is hitting the shots apparently has little to no clue as to what will happen at any given time during the round. That is not a recipe for success and since he's had success in the past..............go back to what got you there!!

Someone above said it. It’s a two way miss. Even if he hits 7-8 out of 10 online, those 2-3 misses usually mean double bogey for JS right now. Guys on tour are too good. You can’t make double bogey and expect to win these days. Guys who finish top 5 these days sometimes don’t have a bogey in 54 holes. A double bogey on tour these days will kill your chances. JS makes them often. He will make birdies in bunches and can make a 30 footer for par, but he’s constantly holding on for dear life because he can’t go 36 holes without making at least one double bogey. That’s not going to win hardware these days...GUYS ARE TOO GOOD.

Ha! I don't think he had a great swing to start with. But he was able to make it work for awhile, and was fantastic with the short game and putter.

Perhaps or possibly he attempts to revert back subconsciously, for surely some muscle memory is still entrenched and he gets out of sorts between swings. Just conjecture on my part, but what we all do know is that what he's doing now is just not conducive to winning against who he's playing against. He shows signs of just about there and something just derails the round. Mental and or physical or a combo of both, but at least attempting to go back to his original swing, even if it's only a facsimile of what is was, could prove better than what he's got now.

The issue is his swing is (and always was) a bit flawed. When he was winning, he owned it and managed to compensate exceptionally. Everyone likes to point to his putter for his success, but when he was winning majors his ball striking stats were exceptional. Now I'm not sure he can ever get back to that state given all the mental gymnastics he puts himself through. The pressure he is under to once again return to that form is just too much and he can't compensate like he used too, which explains the complete foul balls once or twice a round that completely derail him

I think the big issue is that from all reports, he changed his swing to gain more distance with the driver. It's the driver that causes 99% of the problems. The iron game, although not quite up to the level it was when he was winning, does show signs of what can be and the putter is not that far off. Granted, his driver was not always on point, but his big misses were blocked right. The new swing and the misses are left and he just does not know when it comes and from perspective, it's when he attempts to go after it more than normal. I referenced Hogans fix for going left and suggested that could be something for him to review. It did great things for Hogan, could possibly do the same for him.........

 

It's not like he doesn't have the time or inclination to change, he's already proved he can do that, so another change should not be that intrusive and could really prove worthwhile for the long run. Now all of this debating is purely opinions on our part. For all we know, he could be very pleased with his current game and he presumably sees a light at the end of the tunnel, were the rest of us don't even see a tunnel...........
