What up with Jordan?

You say "truth bomb", I say speculative cynicism just for the sake of it.

Let's look at total stokes gained in order from 2014-2021 left to right:

If what he said about a nagging hand injury in 2018 is true, then these numbers support that it caused a sharp decline with 2021 being just as sharp of a reversal. It isn't full Jordan Spieth from 2015-2017 but it is both worlds different than 2018-2020 Spieth and strongly trending in the right direction. 2015 form may never be duplicated again, but he is trending towards 2016 numbers since that 1.176 is still being suppressed by poor driving stats.

I suspect the 2021 stats are noticeably better if we could just get the CY 2021 tournaments.  He was still lost late-last year (CY 2020), but this will be less of an impact the farther we go this season.  So let's see how high he can get the figure by the end of the year (should the CY 2021 play continue).

Actual strength of field data disagrees with your assertion. The SOF for the Valero is equal to both the Honda and Sony as well as better than the ATT Pebble field. It is much better than the alternate field events.

Also, he did not change coach, caddie or wife and yet he did recover to win again. In fact, in his last seven starts he is playing like one of the better players in the world: 4, 3, 15, 4, 48, 9, 1.

I think you’re the one who dropped a truth bomb

There's no way to ignore that elephant.  You can't measure Jordan by wins in such limited events.  I am sure he'd admit so himself.

He's not back yet, thread needs to stay open.

WGC Match play event had a damn strong field. How'd the "Big Dogs" do there?

Ha, we used to do this with Tiger all the time.

Is he "back"?

Wait, what does "back" mean?

He looked pretty good down the stretch, nice to see him playing well again

To me, the fans were just as wrong as the haters.  Go back to late-2017, 2018 and the fans would have told you he was just about to turn the corner.  They were way off - it was much worse than they ever expected.

I'd say a reasonable over-under career total for this guy is 20 wins / 5 majors.  And that would be low based on all the "hype" or "look at what he did from 2015-2017, normal people don't do that" stuff that was often cited here many years ago.

I'm glad to see him win and noted a few weeks ago he seemed to be back (or on the way back for real).  But let's see if he returns to a multiple winner per year, multiple more majors, etc vs. some random tour event winner.  There's a big difference between the two...

All valid points. But.  20 wins and 5 majors is today’s tiger numbers.  So that’s not a let down. That would be a huge accomplishment in today’s climate.  We will never see another guy get more than 7 in a career.  Never.  Equipment has brought on the parity that guarantees that.

id settle for seeing him complete the grand slam , and winning 1 a year from now till he’s 38 or so.  That would be huge.

How about that clutch back nine.  Whole round was clutch and showed we need to practice our wedge and putter rather than go look for 10 yards off the tee.

Absolutely.  I don’t care what the stats claim to say.  If you’re long enough and on the planet. Put it in the fairway and wedge and putt at a proficient level snd you’ll win more than chasing ballspeed like Bryson.    Of course if you can do all 3 you’ll break the code. But I’m still not convinced that it can be done.  Tiger didn’t even do it really.  He scored more with an iron and putter than he ever did with driver.  I can’t get past the fact that each gain seems to be a trade off  in another dept.  Bryson has seen this too I think.

No different than he'll be back in 6 months, 12 months, 24 months, 36 months.  The fans changed the goal posts too...

Not everyone was saying "he'll be off the tour."

But there were a lot in this thread that were saying similar.  They attack his swing as “ ugly “.  And claim his shortgame and putting to be “ flukes “.  Flukes don’t last from age 12 to now.  They guy has literally preformed magic since then.  No different than Phil or Seve.  Were they flukes ?

woule be like calling  Rory’s driver swing a fluke .  My response to that would be the same. Gtfo with that nonsense. ( not shot directly at you ).

When's his contract up with UA so he can sign with Jordan Brand and wear the shoes he was born to?

Pretty sure that UA signed him up to a 10 year deal in 2015 so it will be some time before you see him with the Jumpman logo.

Wonder boy got a win, with clearly the strongest field in history, we should just call him player of the year now! The chosen one is back, go YJS! 1 win down

I think that was the 15th win , in 6 years or so.  No ?

his 15th comeback win? I must've missed something.

Nope. Total.  What’s the goal post today for comeback quota?  If we’re going to posture about it , we need a clear metric I think.  Is it 29 more wins ?  More ?  Less ?

You have any evidence of ME moving goal posts? If we're gonna make generalizations I'm curious about where I moved the goal posts from, even I don't know!

Fair enough.  I guess I may have mistaken you for a “ told ya the chicken wing won’t work , his putter is a fluke and he gets sooooo lucky with a wedge in hand “ crowd.  If that’s not so.  My apologies.

Pretty frustrating how this forum has become agree 100% or you're wrong. Not sure why people aren't allowed dissenting opinions. I simply don't like Jordan as he had the spot light and became quite the "whiner" and throws more of a fit than I think fits most the time. I am a big advocate of JT, yes he had his mishap as well, with very very few exceptions he stays very grounded on the course and is a class act all around. Hopefully Jordan is back, and we have big names competing every week again at the highest level. With all of that said, one win at Valero and some top 10's doesn't do it for ME, I hope YJS proves me wrong. Apologies for everyone who is offended by me not blinding loving Jordan and having a different opinion. Maybe he'll be wearing the green jacket in 6 days.

It's not really a case that anyone is offended by your lack of love for Jordan. They just have a dissentlng opinion.
