There's TONS of nice courses there, but I played "McCormick Ranch", with 2 courses, friendly staff, and had a great time. They had Ping rentals, and were very, very accomodating. Here are others I had on a list, but I have not played them personally:

Dino mtn - But one of the most beautiful places (not courses, places) I have ever been.

Dove Valley Ranch

Dinosaur Mountain at Gold Canyon deserves its great reputation!

The Duke -Just opened, open, but great shape, in Maricopa

Eagle Mountain.

Estrella Mountain The problem is the drive -- it's a long, long way if you are staying in the Scottsdale area

Gold Canyon( dinosaur course)- Awesome views

Parkland style course, so great but not unique to the desert.

Starr Pass -In Tucson, toughest course I have ever played from the tips

SunRidge Canyon -Tough course -I think too pricey

Talkingstick North, South

Thunderbirds

Tonte Verde -In Rio Verde, no one knows where this is, but they have (2) very nice courses

Trilogy

Troon North Pinnacle - 9/10 immaculate, www.troongolf.com

Troon North Monument - 9/10

We Ko Pa, Fountain Hills, It's a great course with awesome views. cart path only rule is a drag

Whirlwind Cattail - 9/10 Chandler AZ

Whirlwind Devil's Claw - 7/10

Wigwam Golf Resort - Gold 8/10

Wildfire courses, (Palmer) and (Faldo), both very nice courses

When are you going, what's your budget, and will you have a rental car?

 

If I was going anytime after November 1st, had an unlimited budget and a rental car I'd play these two courses: We-Ko-Pa (Cholla) & Troon North (Monument).

If you're looking to save a bit of cash, check out www.golfnow.com. They have some good deals on tee times.

 

There's plenty of good options in AZ. I'm sure that if you get closer to when you're going to play and have a few options, you can post them on here and people will give you advice.

 

I think the Cholla course at We-Ko-Pa is fantastic. Very subtle, very cool and you can walk.
