Bought a club only for emotional reason?

Have you ever bought a club that;

you know you do not need it for your game

you know you feel too expensive to play

you know you are good enough to play it

you know it is just beautiful

you know nothing.

 

I bought p790 UDI 2 iron again.

I have tried handful of graphite shafts for this one because I just love it.

I know I am better with my CLK hybird. Even I know that I can score lower.

 

Man, I am not a pro who is making money from golf.

I am spending my time and money for my pleasure.

 

This time, I matched the shaft with my iron set.

I don't know how it is going to perform but I will just bag it and keep it. lol.

One that springs to mind was a BeCu Ping B60 putter. Back when this thing came out when I was a junior I had always thought it looked really cool. After wanting one for years, I finally stumbled across one in a secondhand golf shop. Hit a few putts with it, thought it was a decent fit and promptly purchased it before anyone else could get it.

Damn me if I couldn't putt with that thing to save my life. Everything went left. I ended up selling it back for peanuts.

I have the P790 2-iron as well. Is the KBS Tour shaft you have in yours the Proto Graphite version or the steel? I'm trying to decide on a shaft for mine. In my signature I have listed the Accra shaft but actually haven't installed it yet. I also have a new uncut KBS Tour Proto Graphite shaft. Debating which one to install.

 

But to answer your prompt, I just bought a Scotty Cameron Bullseye flange putter (American Classics III version with a leather grip). I bought one of these new when they came out in 2008, or whatever it was, and I always regretted selling it. It honestly might not perform as well as my TaylorMade spider on long putts, given the lower MOI, but I just have so much confidence in it, in part because it's so easy to line up. It's simple, old school perfection. Just point and shoot. With the Spider, it takes time for me to line up, especially on short putts, and it leaves me a little uncertain, which is never a good thing when putting.

As long as you are not taking money away from essential things, who cares? How many years will we play this sport...might as well enjoy it. If buying something sentimental, as a test, something beautiful makes you happy - do it with no regrets.

Mine is steel shaft. My journey for perfect graphite shaft for 2 iron ended without success.

I think it is not possible to me unless I have access like tour pro. Even my fitter said that. lol

I did not play it yet. but whatever, I just like the club.

 

I also strongly regret selling of my old SC. The price of mint old SC is way up in the air.

I bought the P790 UDI 2 iron as well. It is a club that I know I will not use every round and i definitely need to practice with to get more consistent with but I loved the look, the performance, and I knew I wanted to grab one before they stop producing them. No regrets.

I think certain things (i.e. 2-irons) are often non-essential but I don't think I've ever bought something knowing or thinking it wasn't in some way optimal for whatever I wanted at the time.

I've done this with quite a few putters before. Most of them I've bought without ever trying, I've just liked the looks or found a deal even though I didn't need it. Currently I keep looking at buying another Scotty Cameron Studio Design 2.5 just because it was the putter I played with in college, even though I always hated the way it felt and rolled. Nostalgia makes people do some dumb things sometimes.

I have purchased clubs due to an emotional connection with fond memories of the game. Usually clubs my grandfather played when he taught me the game and that I don't currently have.

Absolutely. I had a Scotty Cameron putter (still do), and I ended up buying an Odyssey White Ice Rossie because I used an Odyssey White Hot Rossie all through high schoo. And wouldn't you know it, it won.
