Augusta told nike NOPE!

I'm in the industry and Nike just got news from augusta that they would not be allowed to sell these prayer hand caps. Due to infringement. Prayer hands signifying "Amen Corner"... Where is there infringement? Nike has since pulled the majority of these hats, select few retailers still have them up. Crazy to think Nike didn't shoot augusta an email prior to printing 1000s of these.

Not sure whether an entity being public/private has that much to do with infringement.

 

But yeah, Augusta National types belong there because they have craploads of boatloads of cash and want to feel like they can do whatever they want.

The Praying Hands are not new, they have been around since 2015, BUT I think this is the first time they have marketed them by saying "Praying hands on the front patch are inspired by the famous "Amen Corner" at the course in Georgia. The AMEN CORNER piece is probably what got them.

other than it being green, what's the difference in the previous versions of the praying hands merch Nike has sold previously? they had a whole line of green and yellow appearal and accessories with this logo a few years ago. also, didn't Malboon golf and Sugarloaf do something for the Masters previously?

How do I get in touch with Augusta National to report her for displaying praying hands in our house for all these decades?

The iconic " Amen Corner " is only associated with

Augusta National, I don't blame this private club

at all for protecting its rights from a large corporation trying to exploit their club and tournament.

not defending nike or agnc, and am familiar with infringement lawsuits as an alabama fan that reads quite a few stories about the ADept & University being more than slightly *****ish about their scripted "A", but how does two hands put together in prayer violate some type of trademark? ... i didn't even think of amen corner when i saw that ... amen corner is 3 holes of a famous golf course ... google 'prayer hands' and you get a million images of hands put together in prayer ... has angc trademarked prayer? ... serious question ...

Maybe it’s just wishful thinking, but I have hard accepting an “official statement” from nikegolf which is only reported by one guy- no matter how well informed he may be. There’s nothing else I’ve found on social media to support his position.

Alright, so lets think about this... Nike has used this logo before. They switched the "name" of the hands from praying hands to clapping hands back in 2015. Then Malbon has recently started using it. Now Nike puts it on all these shoes. Youre telling me that a company as big as Nike doesnt do their homework on this?!?! Especially when theyre re-using a logo from 4 years ago that got them in trouble!? Using a logo for a tournament that IS KNOWN TO BE STINGY about this stuff!?!? Maybe Nike needs to get golfers in to their golf department. And on top of that, Augusta puts the ax on this BUT the players can still use them???

 

If this is Augusta throwing their weight around, then its on Nike for not doing their homework. If its not Augusta, then we deserve answers! But im sure Nike Golf employees have no clue what GolfWRX ia and have zero pulse on what we, the people who buy their product, actually want.

The good news is, this is rock bottom. It can only go up from here.....right?
