Why not just move the tee on #13 to the left?

Recommended Posts

That's what's so great about it. Generally it's often a 3 or 4, or a 6 or worse. Makes for great drama.

But... short irons into it are a bit much. Creates less drama. Back em up, make it like it used to be was much more exciting.

Or.... do the smart thing and make the ball spin more and lower the driver size to 360cc.   Guys will still hit it a mile. Just not as straight . They will throttle back and play golf again.

I think what Fred Ridley said last year in his press conference pretty much nails it.   “There’s a great quote from Bobby Jones dealing specifically with the 13th hole, which has been lengthened over

Huh? Bubba hits it over the trees now. Move the tee to the left, and it makes the hole effectively shorter for the lefties who can bomb it.   Look, if the 5th hole has been lengthened to 495, and

> I agree with the "par is an arbitrary number" argument, but this is a hole where you want to make a 4. You'll obviously take a 3, but 4 is the goal. It played 4.55 yesterday. So 4 was not as tough an ask. Bobby Jones said it should be a momentous decision to go for that green. It's not a decision anymore. Basically what needs to happen is guys need to be back to the hanging lie. How you get there is a discussion, but if you have a flat lie with an 8 iron in your hand....

Interesting thought, but it's way easier to move the tee box back than lower it. I don't like the idea of moving it further left though.

True, but this is ANGC. Very much a "so let it be written, so let it be done" group, especially with their own property.

> Firstly, the scoring stats don't lie....Bubba Watson and Mickelson torch that hole

A lot of right-handers also torch #13. So, quote the stats.

Mickelson and Watson are also long hitters. I suspect that has more to do with it than being left-handed.

> Secondly, it's because of the way modern drivers are built....it's hard to draw the ball but easy to fade it, and that's the perfect shot shape for a lefty on that hole.

Not buying that at all. Almost every right-handed pro on the course can hit a draw with a driver. Even I can hit a draw with my driver.
