Club fitting recommendations in Northern VA?

Depends on what you're looking for - I don't recommend golfdom to anyone. The service there is horrible in that they are just there to get you out the door with a club at all costs. I've been fit at the Dulles golf center and had a very positive experience. Westfield's is good from what I've heard as well.

I’ve been fit for driver and irons at Westfields, and would recommend them to anyone. They have expanded fitting carts for all the major OEMs. They will have the clubs built by the OEM and check the specs and tweak ( if needed) before they deliver the club to you. They also do lifetime adjustments on clubs they sell. And if you’ve bought clubs from them they will tweak your other clubs for free too if they're not busy. They have a building on the range with a garage door, and you will hit on trackman or flightscope out onto the range. They charge $100 to fit for woods, or irons and don’t roll it into the price if you buy from them. They will match the lowest price you can get the clubs new from online retailers, or off the rack if you buy from them.

Golfdom follows the same fitting model, but they are indoor only, and personally, I’ve never gotten a good vibe from them. But, they are also on the GD 100 best fitters list annually.

Merrifield Golf has more custom options available. They seem to be a mom and pop version of Club Champion to me. They use club connex so you can mix and match any clubhead and shaft they have. They offer the option of building the clubs for you to match the exact specs of your demo club, or having the OEM build them. If you aren’t having them do the build, Westfields is outdoors for the same service, and less cost. If you are interested in trying more exotic stuff, Merrifield may be a good option.

Golfdom is also one of the only golf stores in a 40 mile radius. Dick's doesn't count. Golfdom is always swamped. You have to make appointment and will never have a problem.

Where I wouldn't go is 1757 off 28 near Sterling.

I assume you're already past needing a response, but CC in Fairfax is fine. I screwed up and simply went there to have them assess what wedge shafts I needed and somehow it all cost me $400 to replace 3 of my wedge shafts. Lesson learned, I'm going to teach myself to work on my own clubs.

Yeah, I was bummed to find this out. It seems like Golfdom still does good work but I am slowly teaching myself to do my own work.

I've known him for over 20 years.  I do have his cell number though for anyone who wants it.  He's still working.

I just went through 3 iron fittings:

Golf Galaxy - the fitter was actually great but they simply did not have the options I needed (long shafts) despite me calling to confirm they'd be able to accommodate my 6'7" needs. The fitter refunded me and recommended two options - CC and Westfields.

Club Champion (Fairfax) - tons of options and the guy was okay. But it felt like a sales exercise, not a fitting, and the clubs were ridiculously priced. It didn't leave me feeling confident.

Westfields (Ken Farrell) - much more what I was looking for. Lots of options but also better explanation of what was working and why, and what my options were. Almost like having a mini lesson plus fit. Zero sales pressure and prices the same as online. Came away very happy. But sad that I'll have to wait a while for delivery. Highly recommend them.

I've been thinking about going to CC, but this is the first I'm hearing about Westfields.  Anybody else gone this route?

I've heard about Westfields from several people, including the fitters at the old Golf Galaxy in Fairfax (Before they combined and moved into Fair Oaks mall w/ DSG). I went and did the new T100 irons at Golf Galaxy since they have 5 trackman bays now, but they didn't have tall length iron shafts for me. They also said Westfields.. So i think would be a good option. I'm thinking of testing them out myself soon.

Was the Westfields fitting off of grass? I'm in the market for wedges and my normal fitter is indoors on a mat. That works perfectly for woods, ok for irons, but for wedges I'd really like to test different grinds on turf and a short game area.

Did a driver fit with the Golf Doctor in DC.  Bit of a pain to get to him (just really any travel into DC haha) but he is worth it.  Really worked with me on my fitting.  Bounced back between flexes of shafts and even was looking at tipping something for me.  Was a really in depth fit.

I have also been fit at Westfields.  Great for irons but in my experience the used just the stock shafts for woods.  Todd is a great guy at Westfields.  He is currently working on a warranty issue for me so have to put in a good word for them too.

Golf Dr is indoor with trackman but uses premium balls.  Westfields is range balls off a mat.
